Abstract

The multipole low voltage switch has a range of contact arms mounting mobile contacts pivotable between open and closed positions with fixed contacts. The contacts are mounted in an arc forming chamber. An arc breaking chamber above the arc chamber has a stack of ferromagnetic deionisation separators each bent into a U-shape from sheet metal. Each separator has two slots formed at its bend aligned with the contacts. A guide strip extends from the slot of each end separator to the fixed and movable contacts. The switch construction inhibits the regeneration of an arc by trapping the ionised gases.
