Abstract

Of a square winged 'U' section in plan, the precast reinforced concrete units are superimposed in courses to build retaining walls, the plane major face (1c) of the bar of the 'U' constituting the fascade. The bar and the wings are coplanar, each of the wings cantilevering horizontally for a distance equal to half that between the legs (2, 3). The angles between the fascia slab and the legs may be reinforced by 45 deg. splays (4), and the legs may splay out terminally to form flanges (5) increasing the moment of resistance. The effective projection of the legs may reduce with the height of the unit.
