Abstract

The hydraulic drive for bicycles replaces the usual chain. The chain wheel (1) has the teeth replaced by cams which push a piston inside a cylinder (2) contg. incompressible liq. and create liq. pressure. This liq. is fed, via a steel pipe to another cylinder (3). The second cylinder is connected to a rack (4) just below the free wheel and engages the teeth on it to propel the bicycle. The system is fixed on each side of the bicycle to give alternating action. The rack cylinders can be protected in plastic or aluminium.
