Abstract

The folding garden chair is adjustable for height being supported on lateral articulating 'X' frames (12, 18) and being locked at the desired height by a cross bar (32) engaging the teeth of opposed parallel racks (44). One of the members (18) of each 'X' frame forms the front legs and extends upwards to form support for the backrest (16). The cross-bar (32) is mounted offset from and parallel to the chair rest (10), and is guided by its extremities running in slots in each of the major leg members (18, 20). Rack formations (44) may be provided on the opposed vertical members of a rectangular frame. The top horizontal member of the rack frame is extended on both sides by dowels which locate in sockets in the major leg members (18, 20), and the bottom horizontal member provides frame stability.
