Abstract

A supervisory unit for alarms is used in telephone exchange using pulse code modulation. The replaces personnel whose function is to detect any fault in the system. The supervisory unit is connected to units which are part of the exchange. The exchanges units send alarm signal consisting of digital bits. It has cyclic detectors comprising a multiplexer, a clock driven counter, a series-parallel converter, an OR circuit and a flip-flop. It also has an interrogator comprising a comparator which receives the address of the unit to be interrogated and also all the addresses of all units to be interrogated as supplied by a clock. When the addresses coincide, the comparator stops the counter. The address selected and the alarm signal are then entered in an alarm register.
