Abstract
The regulator consists of a fixed piece (10) secured to the engine block (5), and a shoe (12) connected by a pivot to the fixed piece. The shoe is held against the transmission chain by the action of a piston housed in a cylinder (16) in the fixed piece, pushing via a rocking beam (18), against a projection (22) at the free end of the shoe. The piston is moved to adjust automatically the tension in the transmission chain by a flow of fluid. The fixed piece has a reservoir of fluid connected to the piston cylinder and inside the piston is a non-return valve (44) which permits the flow of fluid from the reservoir into the cylinder. The reservoir is also linked by a feed pipe to a pressurised hydraulic circuit.
