Abstract
The shifter has a threaded shaft controlled from outside a vacuum chamber contg. the shifter and a nut and screw transmission box, with >=2 screws engaged on the shaft which turns in bearings, one of which constitutes a stop. The material of the nuts forms, with the material of the shaft, a pair of non-magnetic metals, or a pair without remanent magnetism, after demagnetisation, and with a very low mutual friction coeff. The stop is adjustable for wear. Pref. the pair of metals is stainless steel and non-ferrous alloy of Co, Cr and W; or stainless steel and Be bronze. The materials are surface-coated with PTFE.
