Abstract

Wear-resistant machine part made of tough steel for devices subjected to intensive abrasion and impact loads, the novelty being that the working surface of the machine part is reinforced by elements made of wear-resistant alloys with min. Rockwell hardness of 40 HRC, the elements being arranged so that their free sections form a part of the working surface. The machine part pref. consists of a wear plate for breaking and crushing or milling machines, the plate being made of tough austenitic or carbon steel whereas the elements consist of white cast iron with min. hardness 45 HRC, and are located in a mould cavity into which the tough steel is cast. The working life of the machine part is greater than or equal to 1.5 times that of conventional components, e.g. 25 months, as compared with 12 months when Hadfield's Mn steel was employed.
