Abstract

A circuit for an artificial cardiac pacemaker which supplies periodic stimulation pulses, with an output capacitor preceding the implanted electrode, emits a pulse of opposite polarity immediately after each stimulating pulse so as to discharge the capacitor rapidly, i.e. within 30 m sec. A set of alternative circuits are shown using a switching transistor arrangement to reduce the charging time of the capacitor in this way. Alternatively, the capacitor is connected to the junction point of an inductance in the H.T. supply and the output transistor. This inductance has a value between 200 and 700 mH, preferably 400 mH.
