Abstract

A chamber maintained at slightly below atmospheric pressure has a conveyor passing through it bearing the objects to be coated or treated with electrostatically charged powder. Surplus powder passes pref. through a cartridge filter, from a hopper in base of chamber to a fluidisation tank, the level in which is controlled by a float-switch in circuit with a vibrator acting on the hopper. Powder is blown off the surface of the fluidised bed by an air-jet into a pipe which recycles is to the spray head, modified to produce even distribution over its full height by providing apertures, the flow area of which increases with height, to allow for drop in available head of powder.
