Abstract
The inks consists of solutions of dyes in a non-aqs. medium contg. 10-90 wt.% formamide, 2-80 % hydrocarbon and 0-80% organic polar solvent, and have a viscosity at 25 degrees C of below 200 cp. Preferred quantities are 10-50% formamide, 4-40 % hydrocarbon and 20-60% polar solvent and 1-10 % of a wetting agent may be included. Specific solvent mixtures claimed are 90% formamide, 2% toluene 8% ethanol and 12% formamide, 44% toluene and 44% ethanol. They are suitable for writing on porous surfaces and also non-porous materials such as plastics films (e.g. cellulose acetate) glass or metal, from which they can be readily rubbed off. On PVC and polystyrene they give permanent markings.
