Abstract
Lead accumulator with an acid electrolyte contains, in addition to the main electrodes, at least one auxiliary electrode which is connected as a hydrogen consumption electrode. It contains tungsten carbide as catalyst and is situated at a more negative potential than its reversible H2 potential in the electrolyte. The auxiliary which is relatively cheap consumes developed hydrogen, and assists in the control of the charging process. Gastight closure of the accumulator is obtained, and the accumulator requires less maintenance.
