Abstract
1,215,630. Fuel cells. SIEMENS A.G. 21 Feb., 1968 [23 Feb., 1967], No. 8515/68. Heading H1B. A method of operating a fuel cell with a porous gas-diffusion electrode and a liquid electrolyte comprises temporarily reducing the rate of supply of reactant gas to the electrode to zero so that continued consumption of reactant gas in the cell reduces its pressure and allows electrolyte to flush the pores of the electrode. Preferably the rate of supply of reactant gas is reduced by an electromagnetic valve which is automatically operated when the electrode potential falls to a preselected value.
