Abstract

New 9-chloroprednisolone derivs. are cpds. of formula (I) in which R1 is 1-8C alkanoyl or benzoyl, and X is Cl, OH, 1-8C alkanoyloxy or benzoyloxy. Specific cpds. (I) include 17 alpha-benzoyloxy-9 alpha-chloro-11 beta, 21-dihydroxy-1,4-pregnadiene-3,20-dione. In an example, this is prepd. by reacting 9 alpha-chlorprednisolone with triethyl orthobenzoate in the presence of pyridine tosylate and hydrolysing the resulting 17 alpha, 21-(1-ethoxybenzyludenedioxy) cpd. with acetic acid/sodium acetate.
