Program controlled knitting machine, including a set of needle lift jacks, each movable between an advanced jack position, to make contact with a needle to move it from an idle position to a knitting position, and a jack retracted position so as not to contact any needle, characterized in that it has a set of needle control elements corresponding to the set of needles, each control element having a moving part between a corresponding retracted position and an active position respectively to the idle needle position and knitting position, and selector means controlled by sample formation instructions generated by the knitting machine's programming means to move selected control elements from the retracted position to the active position of lamella, thus moving the needles corresponding to the control elements select two from the inactive position to the knitting position to influence the sample according to the instructions generated by the programming means.
