THE PRIMARY COMPONENT OF THIS INVENTION IS A BRAIDED TUBE (15) LINKED TO A GAS GENERATOR (22). WHEN A SIDE IMPACT IS DETECTED, THE GAS GENERATOR (22) IS ON, INFLATING THE BRAIDED TUBE (15). WHEN THE BRAIDED TUBE (15) IS INFLATED, THE TUBE DIAMETER (15) INCREASES AND ITS LENGTH DECREASES. THE TUBE (15) THEN COMES OUT OF ITS STORAGE PLACE AND FORM A SEMI-RIGID STRUCTURAL MEMBER, TENSE THROUGH THE WINDOW (24) SIDE OF THE VEHICLE.
