- valve member 33 In operation of the above described valve assembly 10, when water passes through the passages 24 and rests on the valve member 33, pressure is applied to the valve member 33. When the pressure exceeds a predetermined pressure, the valve member 33 is moved away from the seat 35 to an open position permitting the water to pass through the passage 30 to enter the passage 18 and then the passage 17. When no such water is present, the valve member 33 is engaged with the seat 35 to prevent gasses, including odour causing air, passing from the passage 17 to the passages 24.

A middle portion of the pivot rod 66 is engaged to a pivot flange 73 of the valve member 62 via the clamp bracket 68 and clamp screw 70.
- the separate components 68, 70 may be in a single moulded form.
- a resilient spring 74 extends between the underside of the valve member 62 and a mounting stem 59 extending downwardly from the annular flange 51 to urge the valve member 62 to engage the valve seat 52.
- the valve seat 52 includes a seal 78 to sealingly connect the valve member 62 and the annular flange 51, thereby closing the passage through the floor waste.
- valve member 62 In use, when water flows onto the valve member 62 and applies a pressure thereon that exceeds a predetermined pressure based, at least in part, on the nature of the spring 74, the valve member 62 is moved away from the seat 52 to an open position permitting the water to pass through the passages of the floor waste and drain pipe. When no such water is present, the valve member 62 is engaged with the valve seat 52 to advantageously prevent gases, including foul air, passing up through those passages into the room.
- Yet another advantage of the invention resides in its ability to be retrofitted or installed in most existing floor drains without having to replace, or cause damage to, the grate, grate mounting flange, surrounding floor surfaces, or pipes.

Claims (6)
- Ensemble clapet (40) destiné à être utilisé conjointement à un élément tubulaire (12) possédant une surface interne (13) entourant un passage (17) dans lequel l'ensemble clapet est destiné à être inséré de façon étanche, ledit ensemble clapet comprenant :un corps tubulaire (42) possédant un passage longitudinal et une surface externe (44) destinée à être positionnée de façon adjacente à la surface interne ;un dispositif d'étanchéité (50) monté sur la surface externe pour venir en prise avec la surface interne pour raccorder de façon étanche le corps tubulaire avec l'élément tubulaire ;ensemble clapet mobile (62) mobile entre une position ouverte permettant l'écoulement d'eau depuis une extrémité en amont jusqu'à une extrémité en aval du passage du corps tubulaire et une position fermée fermant le passage du corps tubulaire ; et un moyen résilient (74) poussant l'élément clapet dans la position fermée, ledit moyen résilient étant conçu pour permettre un déplacement de l'élément clapet vers la position ouverte lorsque la pression supérieure à une pression prédéfinie est appliquée sur l'élément clapet mobile ; etune bride annulaire (51) montée sur le corps tubulaire qui fournit un siège de clapet (52), ledit élément clapet mobile venant en prise avec le siège de clapet pour fermer le passage du corps et ladite bride annulaire comprenant un agencement de montage (58, 59) coopérant avec un ensemble pivot (60) supportant l'élément clapet mobile ;caractérisé en ce queune surface interne (46) du corps tubulaire est formée avec une paire de fentes de guidage (54) et la bride annulaire possède une paire d'éléments de guidage (56) formés pour venir en prise avec les fentes de guidage par une action d'insertion et de verrouillage par torsion.
- Ensemble clapet (40) selon la revendication 1, ledit élément clapet mobile (62) étant monté pour un mouvement de pivot autour d'un axe (64) généralement transverse à un axe longitudinal du corps tubulaire (42).
- Ensemble clapet (40) selon la revendication 1, ledit moyen résilient étant un ressort (74).
- Ensemble clapet (40) selon la revendication 3, ledit ressort (74) s'étendant entre le dessous de l'élément clapet (62) et l'agencement de montage (58, 59) pour pousser l'élément clapet à venir en prise avec le siège de clapet (52).
- Ensemble clapet (40) selon la revendication 1, ladite surface externe (44) du corps tubulaire (42) possédant une rainure annulaire (48) dans laquelle le dispositif d'étanchéité (50) est monté.
- Évacuation d'eaux usées au sol (11) comprenant un élément tubulaire (14) possédant une surface interne (16) entourant un passage (17, 18) et ledit ensemble clapet (40) selon la revendication 1 inséré de façon étanche dans le passage, ledit élément tubulaire possédant une extrémité supérieure et une extrémité inférieure et une grille (23) fixée solidement à l'extrémité supérieure en dessous de laquelle l'ensemble clapet est positionné.
