Description
- The subject of the invention is a wooden window frame of reinforced construction, comprising both the sash frame and the casement frame. The invention finds its application mostly in roof windows.
- There is known a wooden window frame with a turning or tilting and turning sash, of which the side parts connected with the transverse parts are fitted at both sides with hinges located particularly in the central zone of the frame side parts, and the side and transverse parts of the frame are longitudinal wooden elements with a grain pattern generally agreeing with the lengths of the separate parts of the frame.
- An example for a customary wooden window frame as described above is disclosed in
DE 956 443 C . - 10 On this background, it is an object of the present invention to provide a wooden window frame with wooden parts being reinforced across their grain. The object is achieved by a wooden window frame according to
claim 1. Preferred embodiments are subject of dependent claims. - According to the invention inside the wooden parts of the frame, especially inside its side parts, the frame is provided with wood reinforcing elements across wood grain, located transversely against the plane of the main window frame, the reinforcing elements being advantageously metal ones.
- The elements reinforcing the wooden parts of the frame across their grain are threaded fasteners, preferably screws, threaded on their whole length.
- The hinge is fixed to the side parts of the frame by threaded fasteners, advantageously being screws, and the threaded fasteners reinforcing the wood of the side part of the frame, advantageously being screws with thread on their whole length, are located on planes perpendicular to these fasteners.
- The wood reinforcing fasteners are located between the threaded fasteners fixing the hinge to the side parts of the frame.
- The side part of the frame has at least one cavity into which enters the fastening ear of the hinge, and at least one threaded fastener reinforcing the wood of the side part of the frame passes through a hole in that ear.
- The fastening ear of the hinge is preferably pressure fitted by at least two of its opposite surfaces in a cavity in the side part of the frame, acting as a position setter of the hinge in the side part of the frame.
- The threaded fastener passing through the hole in the ear of the hinge has two threaded sections separated by a threadless section.
- The wood reinforcing elements are located close to the corner joints of the side and transverse elements of the frame.
- The frame for roof window, according to the present invention, is presented in embodiment examples on a drawing.

The variant according to the first example of the invention is being applied in the
sash frame 1 of a roof window, connected with thecasement frame 2 by twohinges 3 located at the central part of the window. In each hinge, one of its subassemblies comprising thearched slide 31 is fixed byhinge fastening plate 32 to theside part 11 of the sash frame. The hinge subassembly is placed in theexternal recess 12, located at the external side of the sash frame, while at the opposite side of theside part 11 of the sash frame, i.e. at the inner side of thesash frame 1, there is aninternal recess 13, in which the window pane is being set. In the wall of theside part 11 of the sash frame, between therecesses metal reinforcing screws 4 located across the wood grains of theside part 11, the task of which is crosswise tying the grain fibres to protect thewooden side part 11 from delamination. The reinforcingscrews 4 are placed perpendicularly to the plane of the main sash frame, which is identical with the surface of the glass pane when flat panes are used. The reinforcingscrews 4 used in the zone of fitting the hinges are perpendicular also to thescrews 6 fixinghinge fixing plate 32 to theside part 11 of the sash frame. The reinforcingscrews 4 are located between thescrews 6, which fix thehinge 3 to theside part 11 of the sash frame. Thefixing plate 33 is provided also with locating dowels mating with theholes 15 in theside part 11 of the sash frame. - Example 2. The variant according to the second example of the invention is being applied in the
sash frame 1 of a roof window, connected with thecasement frame 2 by twohinges 3 located in the central part of the window. In each hinge, one of its subassemblies comprising thearched slide 31 is fixed to the side surface of the recess by means of itsfixing plate 33 provided with theears 34, which are inserted into thecavities 14 in the side surface of therecess 12 of theside part 11 of the sash frame. The hinge subassembly is being placed in theexternal recess 12, located on the external side of the sash frame, while on the opposite side of theside part 11 of the sash frame, i.e. inside thesash frame 1 there is aninternal recess 13, in which the window pane is being set. In the wall of theside part 11 of the sash frame, between therecesses metal reinforcing screws 4 located across the wood grain of theside part 11, to protect thewooden side part 11 from delamination. The reinforcingscrews 4 are placed perpendicularly to the surface of the main frame of the sash, identical with the surface of the glass pane, and pass through holes in theears 34, constituting an additional shape connection. The reinforcingscrews 4 used in the zone of the hinge are perpendicular also to thescrews 6, which fasten thefixing plate 32 of the hinge to theside part 11 of the sash frame. The reinforcingscrews 4 are located between thescrews 6, which fasten thehinge 3 to theside part 11 of the sash frame. - Example 3. The variant according to the third example of the invention is being applied in the
casement frame 2 of a roof window connected with thesash frame 1 by twohinges 3 located in the central part of the window. In each hinge, one of its subassemblies comprising thearched slide 35 is fixed to theside surface 21 of the recess in the casement frame by itsfixing plate 36 provided withears 37, which are being inserted into cavities in the side surface of therecess 21. In the wall of the casement frame existing between therecess 21 and the opposite external surface of the casement frame are placed themetal reinforcing screws 5 placed across the wood grain fibres of the casement frame, the task of which is tying the grain crosswise to protect the wood of the casement frame from delamination. The reinforcingscrews 5 are placed perpendicularly to the surface of the main casement frame, and pass through holes in theears 37, constituting an additional shape connection. Thescrews 5 have a treaded section and athreadless section 51 mating with theear 37 of the hinge. - Example 4. The variant according to the fourth example of the invention finds its application in the sash frame corner, on the joint of the
side part 11 with thebottom part 16 of the sash.The reinforcingscrew 4 is placed in theside part 11 of the sash, close to its corner, and is being driven perpendicularly to the main surface of the sash. - Example 5. The variant according to the fifth example of the invention finds its application in the sash frame corner, in its
upper part 17, close to the latch furrow. The reinforcingscrew 4 is placed identically as shown inFig. 8 , perpendicularly to the main surface of the sash.
Claims (7)
- A wooden window frame comprising a wooden sash frame (1) and a wooden casement frame (2), especially for a roof window, with a turning or tilting and turning sash, in which the side parts (11) of the sash frame (1) are connected with the transverse parts of the sash frame (1), and the side parts (11) of the sash frame (1) are fitted at both sides with hinges (3) located particularly in the central zone of the frame side parts (11), whereas the hinges (3) are fixed to the side parts (11) of the sash frame (1) by hinge threaded fasteners (6) oriented in the plane of the sash frame (1) and the side and transverse parts of the sash frame (1) are longitudinal wooden elements with a grain pattern generally agreeing with the lengths of the separate parts of the sash frame (1), characterized in that inside the wooden parts of the sash frame (1), especially inside its side parts (11), the sash frame (1) is provided with wood reinforcing metal elements (4) across wood grain, wherein the reinforcing elements (4) are located transversely against the plane of the wooden window frame, and the reinforcing elements (4) are located in the sash frame (1) on the planes perpendicular to the hinge threaded fasteners (6) and between the threaded fasteners (6).
- The wooden frame according to claim 1 characterized in that the wood reinforcing metal elements (4) reinforcing the wooden parts of the sash frame (1) across their grain are threaded elements, preferably screws, threaded on their whole length.
- The wooden frame according to claim 2 characterized in that the threaded fasteners (6) fixing the hinge to the side parts of the sash frame (1) are screws.
- The wooden frame according to claim 1 characterized in that the side part (11) of the sash frame (1) has at least one cavity into which enters the fastening ear (34) of the hinge (3), and at least one reinforcing element (4) passes through a hole in that ear (34).
- The wooden frame according claim 4 characterized in that the fastening ear (34) of the hinge (3) is preferably pressure fitted by at least two of its opposite surfaces in a cavity in the side part (11) of the sash frame (1), acting as a position setter of the hinge (3) in the side part (11) of the sash frame (1).
- The wooden frame according to claim 4 or 5, characterized in that the reinforcing element (4) passing through the hole in the ear (34) of the hinge (3) has two threaded sections separated by a threadless section.
- The wooden frame according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in that further wood reinforcing metal elements (4) are located close to the corner joints of the side elements (11) and the transverse elements of the sash frame (1).
