Grundsätzlich ist es natürlich auch denkbar, das Kunststoffrohr nur mit einer einzigen Windung um die Trommel zu führen, doch ist dann die Speicherkapazität relativ gering. Wird die Aufwickelvorrichtung für eine Zwischenabbindung angehalten, so weiten sich die Wicklungen um den Zwischenspeicher im Sinne von Durchmesservergrößerungen auf, so daß die sich vergrößernde Rohrspirale eine entsprechende Zwischenspeicherung ermöglicht. Da die Trommel angetrieben ist, wird die Durchmesservergrößerung der Rohrspirale unterstützt. Die Führungsrechen verhindern ein Übereinanderschlagen der Windungen.
