Abstract

An arrangement of thread working elements (2) in a knitting machine has a carrier (1) in which the elements lie at equal intervals in one plane, project from one (5) of its end faces and are locked in place by material applied to element end sections (7). The carrier has a groove (6) in the end face in which the element ends are bedded, using a curable filling paste (3) as the material to form the interlocking join. Also claimed is a process for making the arrangement where the carrier is a flat piece prefabricated with its groove. The filling paste is applied to the groove, the element end sections are introduced into the groove using a tool for holding the elements in one plane and the paste is allowed to harden.

Description

The invention relates to an arrangement of thread processing elements of a warp knitting or knitting machine and a carrier, in which the thread processing elements protrude from an end face of the carrier at equal intervals in one plane and are held in the carrier by an integral connection with an end section.

The thread processing elements can be perforated needles, knitting needles, sliders for knitting needles or sinkers.

In a known arrangement of the type mentioned, thread processing elements in the form of perforated needles are melted into a carrier made of a tin-antimony alloy. In the manufacture of such an arrangement, which is also called "perforated needle lead", the perforated needles are held by means of a tool and in a mold, which consists of an upper and a lower part, is cast in the alloy. This manufacturing process is unsuitable for automated mass production because casting and molding is time consuming and it is practically impossible to achieve multiple productions to produce multiple identical molds, in which several perforated lead wires that are exactly the same can be produced at the same time. In addition, after the hardening of the carrier material, a complex alignment of the perforated needles is necessary, since their position can change during the hardening process, but the distances between at least the perforated end sections that protrude from the carrier must have a predetermined dimension.

The same difficulties arise when the perforated needles with non-perforated end sections are cast directly into a plastic carrier material.

The invention has for its object to provide an arrangement of the type mentioned, the manufacture of which is easier and in which a message of the thread processing elements is omitted.

According to the invention, this object is achieved in that the carrier has a groove in the end face, in which the end sections of the thread processing elements are embedded in a curable filling compound which integrally connects them to the carrier.

The filling compound can be plastic, in particular adhesive.

Here, the filling compound can be introduced into the groove of the already prefabricated carrier and then the thread processing elements held at the desired distance from one another by means of a tool can be introduced into the filling compound and held therein by means of the tool until the filling compound has hardened, so that the filling compound end portions of the thread processing elements are embedded all around. Since relatively little filler material is required, the position of the thread processing elements is practically unchanged even after curing, especially if a cold-curing adhesive is used.

The carrier can consist of light metal, which contains aluminum, for example. It is preferably an aluminum-magnesium alloy.

Such a carrier has a relatively low weight and therefore enables a high operating speed of the thread processing elements due to its low mass inertia.

The invention is described below with reference to the accompanying drawing of a preferred embodiment. Show it:

Fig. 3
3 shows an enlarged section of FIG. 2.

The arrangement shown consists of a carrier 1, thread processing elements 2 in the form of thread guiding elements, here perforated needles for a warp knitting machine and a curable filler 3 in the form of an adhesive, here a two-component adhesive. However, the filling compound can also be a thermoplastic.

Im dargestellten Beispiel beträgt der Abstand etwa 0,19 mm.The carrier 1 consists of light metal. It preferably contains aluminum, in particular an aluminum-magnesium alloy. Holes 4 formed in the carrier 1 serve to fasten the arrangement to a bar by means of screws. The carrier 1 is provided in its end face 5 with a groove 6 which extends over the entire width or longitudinal direction of the carrier 1 and is open at its ends. The carrier 1 is produced by drawing and then provided with the holes 4 and the groove, the groove 6 being milled into the end face 5. The filling compound 3 is then introduced into the groove 6 in the uncured state. Then the thread processing elements 2 held by a tool lying in one plane are inserted with their end sections 7 almost to the bottom of the groove 6 into the not yet hardened filling compound 3 without touching the parallel side walls of the groove 6, so that the end sections 7 all around are embedded in the filling compound. The distance between the thread processing elements 2 and the side walls of the groove 6 should be sufficiently large to fill the intermediate space with the filling compound and to ensure a firm material connection between the thread processing elements 2 and the carrier 1. In the example shown, the distance is approximately 0.19 mm.

The production of the carrier 1 and its connection with the thread processing elements 2 permits automatic series production of the entire arrangement without that the position of the thread processing elements 2 must be adjusted after the filling compound 3 has hardened. The arrangement is also relatively light and therefore enables a high operating speed.

Alternatively, the carrier 1 can also be prefabricated from plastic.
