Eine Trockenverglasung verlangt das Einspannen des Glaselementes zwischen einer gummielastischen Verglasungsdichtung einerseits und einer formstabileren Gegenhalterung anderseits, damit die Verglasungsdichtung durch die aufgebrachte Vorspannung ihre Dichtungsfunktion ordnungsgemäß erfüllen kann. Dieses Einspannen der Glaselemente bereitet bei Kunststoffenstern kaum Schwierigkeiten, da die als Gegenhalterung verwendeten Glasleisten, die ebenfalls aus Kunststoff bestehen, wegen der federelastischen Materialeigenschaften unter Druckbeaufschlagung des Glaselementes mit dem Rahmen verrastet bzw. geklipst werden können. Insbesondere bei Holzrahmen hingegen ist ein federndes Verrasten bzw. Klipsen nicht möglich, so daß Holzfenster, also Fenster mit einem Holzrahmen, der je nach Wunsch selbstverständlich auch mit Aluminium- oder Kunststoffprofilen od. dgl. verkleidet sein kann, bisher meist eine Naßverglasung mittels Silikon od. dgl. Dichtmassen erfordern. Bei Einzefällen kann die Glasleiste unter entsprechender Belastung durch den Verglasungsdruck mit dem Holzrahmen verschraubt werden, was aber eine recht umständliche Montage und eine sichtbare Schraubbefestigung mit sich bringt, und es wurde auch schon eine Trockenverglasung vorgeschlagen, die allerdings spezieller Holzrahmenprofile mit integrierten Glasleisten bedarf und eine Vorspannung der Verglasungsdichtung von der Außenseite über die Dichtungshalterung her erzwingt, so daß ein beträchtlicher Herstellungsaufwand in Kauf zu nehmen ist.
