En outre, des lames de bois sont généralement clouées sur le bord des joues du touret pour réaliser une protection extérieure. Lors de la mise en place de l'organe de conditionnement la face crénelée est tournée vers l'intérieur du touret, les parties en surépaisseur étant insérées entre les joues. En outre il est prévu des moyens pour relier les extrémités de la bande l'une à l'autre lors de la mise en place de l'organe de conditionnement. Compte tenu de cette structure l'organe de conditionnement doit être strictement adapté tant en longueur qu'en largeur au touret à conditionner et il n'est donc pas possible d'utiliser un même organe de conditionnement pour des tourets présentant des dimensions variées.
