Aus der DE 41 40 319 A1 ist eine Walze für eine Anlage zum kontinuierlichen Gießen mittels einer oder zweier derartiger Walzen mit einem äußeren Ring aus einem gut wärmeleitenden Material und einem mittigen Kern bekannt, bei der der Ring mit einem darunterliegenden zylindrischen Tragteil über seine gesamte Berührungsfläche verbunden ist, wobei die Verbindung eine Diffusions-Schweiß-Verbindung ohne Verschmelzung ist. Die durch das Durcharbeiten erzielbare Homogenität des Gefüges wirkt sich vorteilhaft auf die Dauerfestigkeit aus und vermeidet spätere Ausscheidungs- o.ä. -vorgänge in dem Material. Auch die mechanische Bearbeitung wird erheblich kostengünstiger, da mit preisgünstigen, kleinen Werkzeugmaschinen in Kleinserien gearbeitet werden kann. Zwischen den einzelnen Segmenten wird vorteilhaft im kalten Zustand ein Spalt gelassen, der sich bei Arbeitstemperatur durch die thermische Ausdehnung der einzelnen Segmente schließt.
