Definitions
- the invention relates to a dispensing and crushing device for small pieces of ice in connection with an ice-making device as an independent unit or in particular integrated in refrigerators or freezers, with a storage container determining a filling height of these small pieces of ice, into which an inclined screw conveyor engages, the pitch of which corresponds to the size of the goods to be transported Small ice cubes is adapted, the upwardly conveying screw, which is designed with open screw turns, partly lying in an adapted conveying trough of the storage container, and in which the screw conveyor conveys the small ice cubes into a comminution device arranged in the region of an output recess.
- a dispenser for small pieces of ice in connection with a household refrigerator in which the small pieces of ice are dropped from an ice-making device and transported to the dispensing recess by an inclined screw conveyor formed with open screw turns.
- the screw conveyor is located on the one hand in a storage container for the small pieces of ice and on the other hand with its screw turns completely below an ice piece detector which defines the maximum filling height of the storage container.
- the storage container is provided in the area of the screw conveyor with a conveyor trough adapted to the screw conveyor.
- a comminution device can optionally be attached to the discharge opening. In this case, in particular in those cases in which the storage container is filled up to the maximum filling level, the risk is relatively great that pieces of ice become jammed in the area of the dispensing opening.
- a crushing device for ice cubes is described in British Patent 1,337,647.
- This device consists of a motor-driven toothed web parts connected to a screw conveyor, which press the pieces of ice against fixed segment parts engaging in their spaces and thereby crush them.
- the comminution device can be switched over in two positions of use, in one position the uncrushed pieces of ice are ejected, while in the other position of use the pieces of ice are caught by an additional engaging rake part in front of the segment parts, so that they are crushed by the toothed web parts entering between the segment parts will.
- toothed web parts only serve to transport the pieces of ice during the crushing process and should not have any function in the free discharge of the uncrushed ice pieces, it can happen that the web parts unintentionally catch the ice pieces, press them against the segment parts and crush them.
- the invention is based on the task of designing a dispensing and comminuting device for small pieces of ice so that the pieces of ice are optionally output one after the other and are only comminuted when the comminuting device is switched on. In addition, jamming of the ice cubes in the dispensing opening and continued dripping of melt water at the dispensing point should be avoided.
- a conveyor section of the screw conveyor is located in the free space above the fill level of the storage container, that the feed trough of the storage container has at its upper end a separating section with a separating means located in the storage container before the end of the conveying path, which is designed in this way that it limits the promotion to the dispensing recess by dropping the superfluous pieces of small ice into the storage container to individually consecutive pieces of small ice, and that the size reduction device can be operated optionally.
- the separating section preferably contains a squeegee, but it can also be expediently designed as a corresponding ejection recess in the storage container.
- the required ejection recess corresponds essentially to the size of the pieces of ice to be dispensed. As a result, it is not necessary to collect the unnecessarily conveyed pieces of ice.
- An additional advantage can possibly be achieved in that the conveyor section of the screw conveyor above the fill level of the storage container to the dispensing recess in a tubular, inclined Approach neck of the storage container is guided, which has a laterally open dispensing recess, wherein a water return channel to the storage container is formed in the connecting piece. Due to the lateral attachment of the dispensing recess, a gutter-shaped lower section remains in the connecting piece, which directs melt water back into the storage container and there into the water drain.
- parts of the shredding device can advantageously be arranged. These parts fulfill a double function, which consists firstly in the operating position "dispensing uncrushed ice pieces", ejecting them from the dispensing recess and secondly in the operating position "crushing", pressing the ice pieces against indentable segment parts, in which case shredding into ice fragments occurs.
- At least one web-like radially directed transport element can be provided at the upper end of the screw conveyor, which engages between insertable segment parts.
- the web-like transport element is advantageously toothed on its transport side in a manner known per se.
- segment parts which can be pushed in through the laterally open dispensing recess are pivotably mounted with a common holder in the housing part of the comminution device in such a way that in the operating position "comminution”, intervene between the web parts and in the operating position "delivery of uncrushed pieces of ice” can be withdrawn from the turning circle of the web parts and thus from the engagement in the spaces between the web parts.
- the web parts also serve to eject the uncrushed pieces of ice without the need for an additional collecting element during the crushing.
- the pivotable segment parts are expediently connected to a lifting magnet drive which, when the switch is actuated appropriately, engages them in the rotating circle between the web parts.
- the engagement movement of the segment parts between the web parts can advantageously be limited by a stop fixed to the housing.
- a combined dispensing and crushing device for small pieces of ice is created, in which the pieces of ice are conveyed individually to the discharge recess, the web-like transport elements optionally acting as feed elements for the discharge recess or for the segment parts. Dripping off the pieces of ice remaining in the tubular connecting piece when the screw conveyor is at a standstill only results in a water reflux into the storage container without additional melt water dripping at the dispensing point.
- FIG. 1 shows a household refrigerator in which an ice maker, in particular for clear ice cubes, is installed.
- the dispensing and comminuting device contains a storage container 1, which can be filled with pieces of ice up to a filling height h. Compliance with the filling level is ensured by known means not described in the drawing.
- a device for monitoring the fill level of the collecting container is given, for example, in German Patent 17 76 189.
- An upward-conveying open screw conveyor 2 is arranged obliquely in the reservoir 1, which partially lies in an adapted feed trough 3 of the reservoir 1.
- the one dividing line between the conveyor trough 3 and the inner wall surface of the storage container 1 is designated by position 4.
- a squeegee 5 is provided at the upper end of the conveyor trough 3. This consists of a rounded molded part with a rounded running surface 6.
- the screw conveyor 2 is guided above the fill level h of the storage container 1 in a connecting piece 7 of the storage container 1. This has a laterally open discharge recess 8. At the upper end of the screw conveyor 2 is the comminution device, of which only two web-like transport elements 9, 10 can be seen in FIG. 1.
- the storage container 1 there is a schematically indicated ice-making device 11, in which hollow small pieces of ice 13 are frozen on cooling fingers 12. After a predetermined wall thickness of the small pieces of ice 13 has been reached, they are released by heating the cooling fingers 12 while moving the trough 14 away and fall into the storage container 1.
- An electric drive motor 15 is provided for driving the screw conveyor 2.
- the direction of rotation of the screw conveyor 2 is viewed counterclockwise from the drive motor 15.
- segment parts 17 which are provided with a common holder and can be pivoted about an axis 16, are provided with a smooth surface similar to part of a cylinder part, the cylinder radius corresponding to the turning radius r.
- These segment parts 17 can be inserted between the transport elements 9, 10 (cf. FIG. 1) by means of a solenoid drive 18 through the lateral discharge recess 8 of the connecting piece 7.

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a dispensing and crushing device for small pieces of ice in connection with an ice-making device as an independent unit or in particular integrated in refrigerators or freezers, with a storage container determining a filling height of these small pieces of ice, into which an inclined screw conveyor engages, the pitch of which corresponds to the size of the goods to be transported Small ice cubes is adapted, the upwardly conveying screw, which is designed with open screw turns, partly lying in an adapted conveying trough of the storage container, and in which the screw conveyor conveys the small ice cubes into a comminution device arranged in the region of an output recess.
From US Pat. No. 3,902,331, a dispenser for small pieces of ice in connection with a household refrigerator is known, in which the small pieces of ice are dropped from an ice-making device and transported to the dispensing recess by an inclined screw conveyor formed with open screw turns. The screw conveyor is located on the one hand in a storage container for the small pieces of ice and on the other hand with its screw turns completely below an ice piece detector which defines the maximum filling height of the storage container. The storage container is provided in the area of the screw conveyor with a conveyor trough adapted to the screw conveyor. A comminution device can optionally be attached to the discharge opening. In this case, in particular in those cases in which the storage container is filled up to the maximum filling level, the risk is relatively great that pieces of ice become jammed in the area of the dispensing opening.
A crushing device for ice cubes is described in British Patent 1,337,647. This device consists of a motor-driven toothed web parts connected to a screw conveyor, which press the pieces of ice against fixed segment parts engaging in their spaces and thereby crush them. The comminution device can be switched over in two positions of use, in one position the uncrushed pieces of ice are ejected, while in the other position of use the pieces of ice are caught by an additional engaging rake part in front of the segment parts, so that they are crushed by the toothed web parts entering between the segment parts will. Although in this design the toothed web parts only serve to transport the pieces of ice during the crushing process and should not have any function in the free discharge of the uncrushed ice pieces, it can happen that the web parts unintentionally catch the ice pieces, press them against the segment parts and crush them.
The transport of small pieces with open and closed screw conveyors from a storage container is described, inter alia, in German Offenlegungsschrift 24 24 252 and in US Pat. Nos. 3,341,065 and 3,918,266.
The invention is based on the task of designing a dispensing and comminuting device for small pieces of ice so that the pieces of ice are optionally output one after the other and are only comminuted when the comminuting device is switched on. In addition, jamming of the ice cubes in the dispensing opening and continued dripping of melt water at the dispensing point should be avoided.
This task is solved in that a conveyor section of the screw conveyor is located in the free space above the fill level of the storage container, that the feed trough of the storage container has at its upper end a separating section with a separating means located in the storage container before the end of the conveying path, which is designed in this way that it limits the promotion to the dispensing recess by dropping the superfluous pieces of small ice into the storage container to individually consecutive pieces of small ice, and that the size reduction device can be operated optionally. The separating section preferably contains a squeegee, but it can also be expediently designed as a corresponding ejection recess in the storage container.
Through the upward conveyance of the small ice cubes shaped as ice cubes or hollow ice bodies with the help of the upward conveying screw which, before the end of the conveying path, sheds unnecessary small ice cubes in the storage container on the squeegee serving as a separating agent and thus feeds them back into the storage container, an individual feed for the dispensing recess is made possible. The required ejection recess corresponds essentially to the size of the pieces of ice to be dispensed. As a result, it is not necessary to collect the unnecessarily conveyed pieces of ice.
Due to the inclined position of the screw conveyor and a pitch adapted to the size of the pieces of ice to be conveyed in conjunction with the height of the scraper strip, a force acts on the ice pieces during the conveying process in such a way that they always migrate upwards to one side of the screw conveyor. If another piece of ice is placed in a worm gear in addition to what is already there, it is deflected upwards by the squeegee and falls back into the storage container. This is possible because the squeegee or, in the alternative embodiment, the discharge recess when the screw is inclined is higher than the filling height of the small pieces of ice in the delivery container. It therefore appears expedient to attach the squeegee or the discharge recess to the side of the screw conveyor on the dividing line between the feed trough and the inner wall surface of the storage container above the fill level. The surface of the squeegee is appropriately rounded, so that the ice cubes can slide along or over it.
In a further embodiment of the invention, it can be expedient to keep the pitch of the screw conveyor constant.
An additional advantage can possibly be achieved in that the conveyor section of the screw conveyor above the fill level of the storage container to the dispensing recess in a tubular, inclined Approach neck of the storage container is guided, which has a laterally open dispensing recess, wherein a water return channel to the storage container is formed in the connecting piece. Due to the lateral attachment of the dispensing recess, a gutter-shaped lower section remains in the connecting piece, which directs melt water back into the storage container and there into the water drain.
At the upper end of the screw conveyor, parts of the shredding device can advantageously be arranged. These parts fulfill a double function, which consists firstly in the operating position "dispensing uncrushed ice pieces", ejecting them from the dispensing recess and secondly in the operating position "crushing", pressing the ice pieces against indentable segment parts, in which case shredding into ice fragments occurs.
In this case, at least one web-like radially directed transport element can be provided at the upper end of the screw conveyor, which engages between insertable segment parts. The web-like transport element is advantageously toothed on its transport side in a manner known per se.
An expedient development can provide that the segment parts which can be pushed in through the laterally open dispensing recess are pivotably mounted with a common holder in the housing part of the comminution device in such a way that in the operating position "comminution", intervene between the web parts and in the operating position "delivery of uncrushed pieces of ice" can be withdrawn from the turning circle of the web parts and thus from the engagement in the spaces between the web parts. The web parts also serve to eject the uncrushed pieces of ice without the need for an additional collecting element during the crushing.
The pivotable segment parts are expediently connected to a lifting magnet drive which, when the switch is actuated appropriately, engages them in the rotating circle between the web parts. The engagement movement of the segment parts between the web parts can advantageously be limited by a stop fixed to the housing. In addition, it appears to be expedient to form the segment parts on the comminution surface with a smooth surface similar to the surface of a cylinder part and to make them retractable from the rotating circle of the web parts connected to the screw conveyor — expediently until they no longer plunge into the connecting piece.
By applying the features of the invention, a combined dispensing and crushing device for small pieces of ice is created, in which the pieces of ice are conveyed individually to the discharge recess, the web-like transport elements optionally acting as feed elements for the discharge recess or for the segment parts. Dripping off the pieces of ice remaining in the tubular connecting piece when the screw conveyor is at a standstill only results in a water reflux into the storage container without additional melt water dripping at the dispensing point.

Fig. 5 zeigt die Betriebsstellung "Zerkleinern". Fig. 5 shows the operating position "shredding".
