Description

The present invention relates to a stapling machine, intended in particular for assembling planar elements, in particular cardboard blanks in the context of the manufacture of packaging cases, this machine comprising a support plane on which the elements to be stapled are called to pass and an oscillating stapling device mounted on the frame of the machine, facing the support plane, and coupled to an actuating mechanism capable of rotating it in one direction and in the other, around a main axis substantially perpendicular to the direction of travel of the elements to be stapled and within the limits of an angular range of variable amplitude.

In the production lines for cardboard packaging cases, stapling machines with oscillating head, single or double, are almost exclusively used, which make it possible to staple the cardboard blanks without interrupting their continuous movement of movement under the head. stapling, that is to say without reducing the rate of work of the production line.

It is however necessary, from time to time, to modify the amplitude of the pivoting range of the stapling head as a function of different parameters and in particular the speed of travel of the blanks to be stapled, as it may be. necessary to vary according to the desired spacing between two staples or two groups of successive staples. This change in amplitude can currently only be obtained by manual adjustments, carried out using a key, on the actuation mechanism of the stapling head, for example to modify the eccentricity of the crank pin of the drive crank.

However, these adjustments, which are long and complex to the point of often exceeding the competence of the operator of the stapling machine, have the additional drawback of imposing a prolonged shutdown of this machine and therefore of the entire production chain, which is completely incompatible with the high production rates that one seeks to obtain.

The present invention proposes to remedy all these drawbacks and, to do this, it provides a stapling machine of the aforementioned type, which is characterized in that it comprises means for varying the amplitude of the pivot range of the stapling device, means which consist of a mechanism for adjusting the distance from the main pivot axis of the stapling device, relative to the bearing plane of the elements to be stapled.

In a stapling machine in which the stapling device is coupled to its actuation mechanism by a control rod, the adjustment mechanism comprises, according to a preferred embodiment of the invention, a guide sleeve in which the connecting rod is inserted with free sliding, a positioning arm on which the guide sleeve is mounted pivoting about an axis constituting the main pivot axis of the stapling device, this arm being articulated on the frame of the machine, around a second axis parallel to said main pivot axis and distant from the latter, and control means coupled to the positioning arm to bring it and immobilize it in a chosen angular position.

Advantageously, said control means comprise an electric motor driving in rotation at least one member screwed onto a respective threaded rod articulated to the positioning arm, at a point located between the main pivot axis and the second axis.

As will be readily understood, the technique for adjusting the range of the oscillating movement of the stapling device, consisting of bringing the stapling elements closer or further away from the bearing plane, is to a much simpler and faster implementation than the manual interventions which until then had been necessary to practice directly in the actuation mechanism of the stapling device.

Executed using the mechanism according to the preferred embodiment of the invention, this adjustment can also be done during the operation of the stapling machine, since the guide sleeve can slide along the connecting rod without hampering its oscillating movement. The adjustment mechanism according to the invention therefore guarantees optimal flexibility of adaptation in a production line for packaging cartons, without however affecting the flow rate or the production rate of the latter.

The present invention also offers the advantage of a possibility of automating the adjustment of the pivoting range of the stapling device, which can be obtained by placing the electric motor driving the positioning arm, under the order for example from a detector of the running speed of the elements to be stapled.

  • . la figure 1 est une vue de côté, avec arrachements, de la partie haute de cette machine à agrafer ;
  • . la figure 2 est une vue en couple agrandie, selon la ligne II-II de la figure 1 ;

A stapling machine according to the preferred embodiment of the present invention will now be described in more detail, but only by way of non-limiting example, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
  • . Figure 1 is a side view, with parts broken away, of the upper part of this stapling machine;
  • . Figure 2 is an enlarged torque view, along the line II-II of Figure 1;
  • . Figure 3 is an enlarged sectional view along line III-III of Figure 2; and
  • . Figure 4 is a perspective block diagram of the machine of Figure 1.

La tête d'agrafage 2 agit cycliquement, pour poser à chaque fois une agrafe ou une paire d'agrafes sur deux flans à assembler, sous la commande d'un mécanisme d'actionnement à excentrique (non représenté) calé sur l'arbre rotatif 4 monté en partie haute du bâti 1.The stapling machine according to the invention is built around a frame 1 which, in a manner known per se, carries a stapling head 2, single or double (shown in dotted lines), suspended above a horizontal support plane 3 (shown in dashed lines), defined by cleat chains or conventional flexible belts. The elements to be assembled mutually by stapling, in this case cardboard blanks, arrive on this support plane from the preceding post, namely the folder, and pass continuously under the stapling head 2 under the ripple effect of chains or belts. The stapling head 2 acts cyclically, to place each time a staple or a pair of staples on two blanks to be assembled, under the control of an eccentric actuation mechanism (not shown) wedged on the rotary shaft 4 mounted in the upper part of the frame 1.

In order to be able to exert its action while following the continuous movement of movement of the blanks to be assembled, the stapling head 2 can, in a manner also known per se, oscillate in the direction D of this movement. To do this, it is fixed to a support block 5 articulated at the bottom of four suspension arms, only two of which 6, 7 are visible in FIG. 1, these arms 6, 7 being themselves articulated at 8 and 9 at machine frame 1. At the rear of the stapling head 2, a riveting pallet 10 is likewise suspended from the frame 1, by means of four arms 11, 12 (shown in part) and is further connected, by articulated links 13, to the support block 5 of the stapling head, to follow the movement oscillating from the latter.

This oscillating movement of the stapling head is more precisely produced by a control rod 14 which, under the control of an eccentric actuation mechanism 14 wedged on the rotary shaft 4 (shown in a tearing of the frame on the Figure 1), can rotate, in one direction and in the other, around a horizontal axis X substantially perpendicular to the direction of advance D of the elements to be stapled. The articulation 16 between the control rod 14 and its actuation mechanism 15 is further supported by an elbow lever 17, itself articulated to the frame. By its lower end, the control rod 14 is coupled, by an articulated link 18, to the front of the support block 5 of the stapling head.

According to the first characteristic of the present invention, a mechanism is provided for adjusting the amplitude of the pivoting range or of the oscillating movement of the control rod 14 and, consequently, of the stapling device constituted by the stapling head. 2 and the riveting pallet 10 which extends under the latter to cooperate with it.

In the exemplified embodiment, this adjustment mechanism comprises a positioning arm 19, a first end of which is articulated on the frame 1, around an axis Y parallel to the pivot axis X of the connecting rod 14. The arm 19 , which is in fact essentially formed by two parallel branches 20, 21, carries, at its second end, a guide sleeve 22 (shown in a cutaway in FIG. 1) pivotally mounted, between these two branches, by two lateral pins 23, 24 (see FIG. 2) which define the pivot axis X, this sleeve 22 freely sliding receiving the control rod 14. Furthermore, the positioning arm 19 is, at its middle part, suspended, by two rods of articulated vertical connection 25, to a mechanism for controlling its angular position, shown diagrammatically in FIG. 4, the two connecting rods 25 being articulated at 25a on the arm 9.

Essentially, this control mechanism comprises a small electric motor 26 driving, by means of a transmission 27, 28, a first horizontal pulley 29, the hub of which is screwed onto a vertical threaded rod 30, articulated by its lower end, at the top of one of the connecting rods 25, as indicated at 31 in FIG. 1. A belt 32 passes around the pulley 29 and a second horizontal pulley 33, the hub is screwed onto a second threaded rod 34, parallel to the first and articulated at the top of the second connecting rod 25. The pulleys 29, 33 and the belt 32 can of course be replaced respectively by toothed wheels and a chain.

It will be understood that, in the control mechanism thus designed, a rotation of the electric motor 26, in one direction or the other, will cause an upward or downward pivoting of the positioning arm 19 which, as a result, will raise or will lower the guide sleeve 22 by sliding along the control rod 14, even if the latter is oscillating.

In this way, it is possible, without interrupting the operation of the stapling machine, very easily to adjust the position in height of the pivot axis X of the connecting rod 14, and, consequently, the amplitude of the range of the oscillating movement of the stapling device 2, 10.

In order to simplify its mounting around the control rod 14, this guide sleeve 22 consists of two parts, namely a main shell 35 which carries the two pins side 23, 24 and a cover 36 which is assembled by screws 37, 38 to the shell 35, after positioning of the control rod 14 inside the latter.

The shell 35 and the cover 36 delimit, after assembly, a sliding cavity 39 of rectangular cross section. The connecting rod 14 is applied only against the four corners of this cavity 39 by four longitudinal bearing surfaces 40 forming a single piece with a central core 41 in the form of H. This special machining of the control rod 14, which aims to minimize friction, will in principle be limited to the section thereof, on which the sleeve 22 is called upon to slide (see FIG. 1). However, it will be good to cut or hollow out the remaining part of the connecting rod 14 to reduce the inertia.

L'utilisation de la clavette de rattrapage de jeu 43 évite la nécessité d'un dimensionnement précis de la cavité 39.Returning to FIG. 1, it can still be seen that a wedge-shaped take-up key 43 is retained, on the correspondingly shaped inner face of the cover 36 of the guide sleeve 22, by a screw-nut assembly 44 joining two external extensions 45, 46 of these two parts. It is in fact this key 43 which defines, with the shell 35, the sliding cavity 39 of the guide sleeve. The use of the key to take up play 43 avoids the need for precise sizing of the cavity 39.
