Description

The invention relates to an automatically hydraulically adjusting valve tappet, which is arranged in a guide bore of a cylinder head of an internal combustion engine, and against whose end face a control cam runs and which, on the other hand, rests with a second end face against the end of a valve stem, the valve tappet consisting of a cup-shaped housing exists, which comprises a hollow cylindrical wall, which is closed at one end by a bottom, against which the control cam runs from the outside, and which has a cylindrical guide sleeve concentric to the hollow cylindrical wall, which extends from the bottom to the center of a Disc part extends, which merges with its outer circumference into the hollow cylindrical wall of the housing, the disc part and the guide sleeve being connected to one another in a liquid-tight manner, as a result of which between the hollow cylindrical wall and the cylindrical F an annular oil reservoir is limited, which is supplied with oil through a bore leading to the outside, the actual hydraulic lash adjuster being guided in the guide sleeve, which is formed by an inner piston and an overlapping outer piston, which are guided in a longitudinally displaceable manner, and which together delimit an oil pressure chamber which is connected by a bore in the inner piston which is closed by a check valve to a central oil reservoir which is arranged in the inner piston and is delimited on the one hand by the wall of the inner piston and on the other hand by the inner surface of the bottom of the housing, against which the Inner piston rests on the end face, while the outer piston is mounted in a longitudinally displaceable manner in the cylindrical guide sleeve and rests with its closed end against the end of the valve stem, and that at the end of the inn facing the bottom enkolbens an oil transfer opening is provided between the central oil reservoir and an annular space formed between the inner piston and the guide sleeve, the guide sleeve having an inlet opening at a location remote from the bottom, which is connected to the annular space.

Such valve lifters are e.g. known from EP-A 0 030 781. With these valve tappets, oil is transferred from the outer annular oil storage space into the annular space - and from there into the central oil storage space arranged in the inner piston - at a location that is arranged at a short distance from the bottom of the tappet. It is known that there are operating states in which the outer annular oil reservoir is only partially filled with oil, or at least contains a - albeit small - portion of air. If the oil present in the central oil reservoir is needed to fill up the high-pressure chamber when the engine is started, the air located in the outer annular oil reservoir at the upper end will be sucked into the central oil reservoir. This can lead to the fact that this air, which is now located in the central oil storage space, cannot be removed from it quickly enough, but that it also reaches the high-pressure oil space in the course of the next operating cycles, which leads to the known disadvantageous consequences. However, an enlargement of the annular space in the axial direction with the aim of arranging the inlet opening at a greater distance from the bottom of the tappet is questionable because of the associated leakage losses in the sealing gap between the inner piston and the guide sleeve.

In hydraulic bucket tappets, in which an inner piston is guided directly in a guide sleeve connected to the bucket tappet housing, it is known to knock an oil gap between the annular and central storage space through a spirally bent tube (JP-A 59-87212) or through a concentric to the outer jacket of the Guide sleeve arranged to form an annular wall (JP-A 59-65508). These measures are relatively expensive due to the additional components used in the manufacture and cause an increase in the mass of the tappet.

The invention has for its object to ensure by simple constructional measures that air settling at the upper end of the outer annular oil reservoir cannot be sucked into the central oil reservoir.

The invention solves this problem in that the inlet opening is located in the vicinity of the end of the guide sleeve facing away from the floor and opens into a longitudinal groove extending over a relatively small part of the circumference of the guide sleeve, which is arranged in the bore of the guide sleeve, towards the floor extends there and passes over the annular space into the oil transfer opening.

Advantageous embodiments of the invention are described in the subclaims.

In the drawings, the invention is shown by way of example using two longitudinal sections through different plunger designs.

The plunger shown in Fig. 1 consists of the cup-shaped housing 1, which consists of the hollow cylindrical wall 2 and the bottom 3 integral therewith. In this housing an inner part 4 is arranged, which is formed from the disc part 5 and the cylindrical guide sleeve 6. At the contact point 7 between the outer circumference of the disk part 5 and the hollow cylindrical wall 2, these two parts are firmly connected to one another by crimping. In order to achieve a liquid-tight connection, additional welding, soldering or the like is possible at this point. For the purpose of connection, the disk part 5 lies against the circumferential groove 8 formed in the hollow cylindrical wall and, on the other hand, is covered by the bead 9 formed out of the hollow cylindrical wall.

The cylindrical guide sleeve 6 engages on the end face in a groove in the inner surface 10 of the base 3. In this end region, the guide sleeve 6 has an enlarged inner diameter 11 um to give space to a plate washer 12, with which the hydraulic play compensation element 13 is secured against slipping out of the bore of the guide sleeve 6.

The annular cavity, which is delimited by the hollow cylindrical wall 2, the disk part 5, the cylindrical guide sleeve 6 and the inner surface 10 of the base 3, forms an annular oil reservoir 14 which supplies oil from the outside through the bore 15 arranged in the circumferential groove 8 can be. The hydraulic lash adjuster 13 consists of the outer piston 16, which is slidably guided in the guide sleeve 6, and which in turn slides and receives the inner piston 17 with tight play. At its end facing the base 3, the latter has a central oil reservoir 18, which is in fluid communication with the annular space 20 between the inner piston 17 and the guide sleeve 6 by means of the recess 19 in the inner surface 10 of the base 3. From the central oil storage space 18, the oil can pass through the bore 21, which can be closed by the check valve 22, into the high-pressure oil space 23, which is delimited by the two pistons 16 and 17. Under the action of spring 24, these two pistons are pressed apart. In the installed state, the lower end face 25 of the outer piston 16 is in contact with the end face of the stem of an engine valve, while a control cam runs against the bottom 3 from the outside.

To transfer the oil from the outer oil storage space 14 into the central oil storage space 18, an inlet opening 26 is provided in the vicinity of the end of the guide sleeve 6 facing away from the bottom 3, which opens into a longitudinal groove 27, which is arranged in the bore wall of the guide sleeve 6 and itself extends towards the bottom 3.

The oil from the outer annular storage space 14 thus passes through the inlet opening 26 into the longitudinal groove 27, from there into the annular space 20 and via the recess 19 into the central oil storage space 18. Air that may settle in the outer oil storage space 14 at the upper end cannot therefore get into the central oil reservoir 18.

The plunger design shown in FIG. 2 differs from that of FIG. 1 essentially by the different design of the outer cup-shaped housing 1. The guide sleeve 28 is formed here in one piece with the base 3 and the outer oil storage space 14 is on its side facing away from the base 3 Ended by a separate disc part 29, which is caulked at its outer edge to the bore of the hollow cylindrical wall 2, and which is sealed against the end of the guide sleeve 28 by an O-ring 30 inserted therein.

Here, too, the oil is transferred from the annular oil storage space 14 into the central oil storage space 18 through an inlet opening 31 provided in the guide sleeve 28 at its end facing away from the floor, which opens into the longitudinal groove 32 provided in the bore of the guide sleeve 28. Through this longitudinal groove, the oil passes into the annular space 33 between the inner piston 17 and the guide sleeve 28, and from there through a recess 34 provided at the front end of the inner piston 17 finally into the central oil storage space 18.
