Definitions

  • the present invention relates to an electrical connection member of the type comprising a male or female part intended to cooperate with a corresponding male or female part and one end of which is provided with a member for connection to an electrical conductor.
  • the invention also relates to so-called hermaphrodite connection members, in which a part is provided which cooperates with an identical part of another connector, the latter being turned recto-verso.
  • the electrical connection member generally consists of two pairs of lugs, one pair being intended to enclose a stripped portion of the electrical conductor and the second to enclose said conductor and its sheath. It is therefore necessary to carry out a first stripping operation of the conductor, then a second operation of placing the conductor and finally a crimping operation during which the tabs are folded over the conductor. These operations being complex, it has been imagined to produce connection members which ensure, on the one hand, the stripping of the conductor and, on the other hand the fixing of the latter, such connection members being known by the name of "insulation displacement connection".
  • the invention relates to an insulation displacement connection.
  • Connections of this type generally include a tab with a slot into which the conductor is introduced, the width of the slot being such that the insulator is sheared and thus the strands of said conductor, cooperating with the edges of the slot, ensure the electrical connection.
  • This type of connection is for example described in an article by T. YOSHIZAKI published in "Journal of Electronic Engineering” No. 242 (1987.02) p. 50-53
  • one of the aims of the present invention is to provide an insulation displacement connection offering great security for the connection of the conductor, the electrical connection and the fixing of said conductor.
  • the electrical connection member according to the invention is of the type produced from a metal strip which is a good conductor of electricity, cut and suitably folded, from a sole, on the one hand, to present a male, female or hermaphrodite electrical contact and, on the other hand, an electrical connection member with a conductor and of the insulating displacement type in which the sole has laterally on one side a first tab and on the other side a second tab, the two tabs being intended to extend perpendicular to the sole, the first tab on the side facing the connection member being provided with an extension intended to be folded to extend, on the one hand, perpendicularly the sole and on the other hand, perpendicular to the tab, said extension comprising an open and flared slot on the side of its free end, opposite to that adjacent to the sole, while the side flap on the opposite side of the connection member is provided with an extension intended to be folded to extend perpendicular to the sole, on the one hand, and perpendicular to the second tab on the other hand, said extension comprising an open and
  • connection member of the present invention differs from this state of the art in that the free lateral edge of the extension of the first tab is provided with a bar intended to be inserted in a recess of the corresponding edge of the second tab, the latter being extended by a locking tab folded against the extension of the first tab, the free lateral edge of the extension of the second tab having a bar intended to be inserted in a recess of the corresponding edge of the first tab, this the latter being extended by a locking tab folded against the extension of the second tab.
  • one of the slots of one of the two extensions is wider than that of the other extension.
  • the conductor is held better and the lips of the slots of the extensions are avoided to deviate too far, which could harm the electrical connection of said conductor attachment.
  • the widest slit is the slit of that of the extension of the second tab.
  • the tongues of the extensions of the first and of the second tab are extended so as to be folded against the outer face of the corresponding tabs.
  • Figure 1 is a plan view of a sheet blank cut to obtain a contact element according to the invention.
  • Figure 2 and Figure 3 are perspective views showing the folding of the connection part with the conductive wire.
  • Figure 4 shows in perspective a male tab.
  • Figure 5 shows in perspective a female contact element.
  • Figure 6 is a perspective view of an alternative embodiment of the invention.
  • the various figures show an electrical contact member intended to be placed in a corresponding channel of an insulating housing.
  • This electrical contact can be male, female or hermaphrodite.
  • the electrical contact member is made from a metal strip that is good conductor of electricity and has a certain elasticity.
  • the strip is cut to present a part A intended to be shaped to constitute a male, female or hermaphrodite contact member and part B constituting the connection part with an electrical conductor, this part B forming a connection member with displacement of insulating.
  • Part A which may be of a known type, will not be described here in detail.
  • Part B for connection with the conductive wire is cut to present a sole 1, the extension of which will be shaped to constitute the male, female or hermaphrodite contact member.
  • the sole 1 has a first tab 2 which is intended to be folded along a line 3 to extend perpendicular to the sole 1.
  • the first tab 2 has an extension 4 intended to be folded along a line 8 to extend perpendicular, on the one hand, to the tab 2 and, on the other hand, to the sole 1.
  • the extension 4 comprises a slot 5 which has a part 5a whose lips are parallel and a part 5b flared towards a free edge 6 of said extension 4.
  • the extension 4 in the vicinity of the free edge 6 and on a free edge 20 comprises a bar 7.
  • the tab 2 along its edge opposite the line 8 is extended by a locking tab 9 intended to be folded along a line 27.
  • the sole 1 on the side opposite to the tab 2, has a second tab 10 which on one side has a locking tab 13 and on the opposite side an extension 17.
  • the second tab 10 is intended to be folded along a line 18 to extend perpendicular to the sole 1, the extension 17 being folded along a line 11 to extend, on the one hand, perpendicularly to the sole 1 and, on the other hand, perpendicular to tab 10.
  • the extension 17 comprises a slot 14 which has a part 14a whose lips are parallel and a flared part 14b opening on an edge 26.
  • the locking tab 13 is intended to be folded along a line 12 and the free edge 19 adjacent to the edge 26 of the extension 17 comprises a bar 16.
  • the tab 10 In the vicinity of the locking tab 13 the tab 10 has a recess 21, a recess 22 being provided in the vicinity of the locking tab 9 located on the tab 2.
  • the slot 14 in its part 14a is slightly wider than the part 5a of the slot 5.
  • the legs 2 and 10 are folded to extend parallel and per pendulum to the sole 1, then the extension 4 is folded so that the bar 7 comes to bear against the recess 21, the extension 17 also being folded so that the bar 16 comes to bear against the recess 22, the locking tabs 9 and 13 being finally folded down, respectively against extensions 17 and 4.
  • FIG. 4 shows an example of a male connection member, the sole 1 being extended to form an element 24 intended to cooperate with a corresponding female member, for example a member such as that shown in FIG. 5 and bearing the reference 25.
  • the electrical connection part B allows the electrical connection and the fixing of said conductor to be carried out simultaneously and without having to strip the conductor.
  • the latter is engaged in the slots 5 and 14, this engagement being facilitated by the flared parts 5b and 14b.
  • the slot 5 cuts the insulating sheath of the conductor and deforms the section thereof, without deeply cutting said conductor, so that the electrical connection is made, while the slot 14 cuts said insulating sheath up to the conductor for fixing of the latter and, at the same time also the electrical contact.
  • the bars 7c and 16c are, in this variant, extended by parts 7d and 16d respectively which are intended to be folded against the corresponding faces of the legs 2e and 10c.
  • the link between the legs 2c and 10c and the extensions 4c and 17c is reinforced.
  • the slots 5c and 14c can also end in a blooming 5d and 14d in order to avoid permanent stress on the conductor.
