Description

The present invention relates to an electric heating body intended to be incorporated into an interior lining of a clothing element or an accessory intended to be applied against a part of the human body.

In patent EP 0 004 829 a method is described for obtaining an item of clothing or accessory, in particular a ski boot, closely adapted to a part of the human body, by thermoforming an inner lining of thermoformable material, by means an electric heating body incorporated into said lining, this lining and the part of the human body concerned being reciprocally pressurized after having brought the lining to its thermoforming temperature by means of the heating body. The heating body used is obtained by chemical attack on a polyester support coated with an aluminum layer, so as to form a meander capable of constituting a heating body of sufficient length. However, it has been found in use that if this heating body is heated several times the polyester hardens and causes breaks in the aluminum, that is to say a cut in the heating body which then becomes unusable. In any case, thin aluminum behaves badly with fatigue and breaks or tears quickly when it is repeatedly flexed, as is the case, for example, in an inner lining of a ski boot. It is therefore no longer possible to carry out a new thermoforming, for example to readjust a ski boot to the feet of the user, or to use the heating body as a means of heating the clothing element, for example a shoe or glove.

The main object of the present invention is to produce a heating body resistant to repeated bending stresses.

The electric heater according to the invention consists of a ductile metal wire coated with an insulating varnish and fixed over its entire length on at least one metal sheet.

The very thin wire, for example made of copper, supports any bending and even repeated folds, because its diameter is always relatively small compared to the radius of curvature of the bending or of the fold. Its small diameter associated with the ductile nature of the metal used means that the heating body even supports wrinkling.

On the other hand, the metal support of the wire reduces the temperature gradient to a negligible value and ensures an almost uniform distribution of heat. The wire being fixed over its entire length on its metal support, it is in contact at all points with this support, so that it does not form a hot spot.

The heating element according to the invention can be used both for thermoforming an inner lining of thermoformable material and as a heating element intended to slightly heat pieces of clothing such as shoes or gloves.

According to one embodiment of the invention, a copper wire with a diameter of 0.1 mm, coated with an enamel insulating varnish withstanding a temperature higher than the temperature to which the heating body is brought during its use, as found commercially, is fixed to the adhesive or self-adhesive side of an aluminum sheet with a thickness of 0.02 mm. On this same adhesive face is then fixed a thin sheet of insulating material, for example MYLAR (registered trademark), which covers the wire and helps to keep it in place, especially preventing its tearing by friction. The two ends of the wire are connected to wires or cables for power supply. The wire being insulated, it is without, other possible to have crossings.

The wire is arranged in meanders, for example in the following way: the wire is placed in an approximately rectilinear manner, without tension, between two combs, then we cross the combs, that is to say that we pass the teeth from one of the combs on the other side of the teeth of the other comb by drawing the wire. This then forms a meander between the two combs and it only remains to press it on the adhesive face of the aluminum sheet for fixing on this sheet.

Instead of the sheet of insulating material, it is possible to use a second adhesive aluminum sheet, so that the insulated copper wire is fixed on and between two aluminum sheets, which further increases the contact between the wire and its heat diffusing support.

To make a heating body for thermoforming an inner lining of a ski boot, a length of copper wire of 2 meters is sufficient. The wire occupies very little surface and it is easy to dose the heating by varying the length of wire per unit of surface.

The surface of the aluminum foil can be continuous or perforated, for example if it is desired to avoid the heating of certain parts.

Instead of aluminum foil, it is possible to use any other metallic foil. As for the wire, it may consist of another ductile metal, for example nickel silver. In general, the copper wire may have a diameter of 0.1 to 0.4 mm, depending on use and the metal sheet may have a thickness ranging from 0.02 to 1 mm. In general, the metal wire will have a diameter between 0.05 and 2.5 mm, depending on the nature of the metal and the use of the heating body.

The metal sheet can have any shape, in particular a shape adapted to the part of the lining to be heated, respectively thermoformed, for example one of the shapes described in patent EP 0 004 829.
