Description
Description
The invention relates to a seal in particular to an automatically lowerable floor seal for doors, the seal comprising a seal housing, a sealing means which is preferably fitted in the seal housing and fastening means for fastening the seal housing in a groove of a door, of a window or the like. The invention additionally relates to a door leaf having such a seal, to a method for producing such seals, to a method for producing a door leaf with such a seal and to a device for installing door seals in door leaves.
Seals of the type named in the introduction are known, for example, from the document with the publication number DE 203 00 265 U1. The seal disclosed in said document comprises an angle piece and fastening screws as fastening means. The angle pieces are inserted laterally into the seal housing of the seal by way of one leg. The other leg projects from the housing and comprises a hole for the fastening screw which can be screwed in on the hinge side and/or the lock side for fastening the seal into the door leaf.
Seals of the aforementioned type are provided to be installed manually on the door leaves. The installation is effected, in this case, either in a door manufacturing operation (door factory) or, however, on site, often a building site, where the door is installed in a building. The fastening of the seal with an angle piece and fastening screws as fastening means has proved to be simple and cost-efficient in the past.
More recently, there has been an increasing concentration on few manufacturers of doors, along with the concentration on few door factories. As a result, considerably higher quantities of doors are produced in the door factories today than was the case in the past.
The manual installation of door seals in said larger door factories increasingly proves to be a competitive disadvantage as the manual installation of door seals is labour-intensive and consequently costly. There is consequently the need to automate the installation of door seals in the door leaves and to have it carried it out at least in part mechanically, but advantageously to have it carried out in full mechanically.
Installing the known door seals at least in part mechanically is certainly possible in principle, but has a few disadvantages which stem from the design of the door seals for manual installation. One of the disadvantages is that the manufacturer of the door seals supplies the fastening means separated from the rest of the seal. Supplying the fastening means separated in this manner makes it necessary for the fastening means as well as the rest of the seal, in particular the seal housing with the sealing means arranged therein, to have to be supplied to a device for installing the door seals. This is certainly possible in principle and is also more cost-efficient than manual installation, in particular where there are high quantities to be installed. Said obvious solution, however, does not provide the optimum. A seal with the features of the preamble of Claim 1 is disclosed in document EP 1 138 865 A2. Document EP 1 138 865 A2 discloses a seal which can be fastened in a groove of a door by means of elements for pressing-on or pressing-in purposes, the elements being able to be pressed apart by means of a spreading element. The actuation of the spreading element is effected by means of a screw which has to be turned for displacing the spreading element. An Allen key is necessary, consequently, to actuate the screw.
The width flat of the screw is arranged deep inside the seal. The width flat is not accessible easily accessible from the outside. Thus, to place an Allen key is position the releasing means has firstly to be removed from the seal, as already made clear in Figs. 1, 2 and 4 of document EP 1 138 865 A2. This not practicable. Mechanical installation of such a seal by a door manufacturer is only possible with very high expenditure.
For mechanical installation, the releasing means would either first have to be removed from the seal and replaced again once the seal had been fastened or, however, the releasing means is supplied separately to the rest of the seal by the seal manufacturer and installed on the seal once the seal has been installed in the door. In both cases, the final assembly of the seal is carried out by the door manufacturer.
However, even for manual installation of the seal, for example on a building site, the reguirement to install the releasing means once the seal has been fitted in the door is not practicable as at least one specific hand grip is necessary for the installation of the releasing means.
In addition, the installation of the seal disclosed in document EP 1 138 865 A2 is not possible without the use of any tools. Furthermore, a rotating tool is necessary, which involves additional expenditure in a door factory for mechanically installing the seal as a corresponding tooling machine has to be provided for the installation.
This is where the present inventions come into play.
The objects underlying the present inventions are • to develop further a seal of the type named in the introduction such that it is more suitable for mechanical installation in door leaves and •to propose a method for producing and for installing an improved seal according to the invention.
Said object is achieved by the seal with the features of Claim 1 and not by a seal as is disclosed in the prior art.
In the case of a seal according to the invention - the spreading element or elements is or are suitable, and intended, for changing over from the first to the second position and/or vice versa by a linear movement - without the use of any tools, on account of impact or of pressing action, or - using a tool, which comprises an impact means or a pressure-exerting means, on account of impact by way of the impact tool or pressing being exerted by way of the pressure-exerting tool. A seal according to the invention is developed such that the fastening means, prior to the seal being installed in the groove, are arranged on the seal housing in at least partially captive fashion. Captive within the sense of the invention means that the parts of the fastening means connected to the seal housing are not detached from the seal housing as a result of the forces usually arising during the transport of a seal. Captive within the sense of the invention does not necessarily mean, however, that the fastening means are connected to the seal housing such that they would not be detachable from the seal housing wholly or in part by hand or by means of a tool. Detaching the fastening means from the seal housing by hand or by means of a tool can remain possible or can, however, be excluded.
The seal according to the invention is realized such that it is possible to install the seal on a door leaf without the use of any tools. Introducing force using the hands, for example pressing or pulling, can then be sufficient for installing the seal on the door leaf. The seal can also be intended and suitable for tool-free removal.
As a result of a captive arrangement of this type of at least part of the fastening means on the seal housing, it is no longer necessary to supply said parts of the fastening means in a separate manner during the installation of the seal in the groove of a door leaf.
The elements for pressing-on and/or pressing-in purposes can comprise one or more structures which are suitable, or intended, for pressing-on and/or pressing-in purposes in the groove of the door, of the window or the like. A positive locking or at least a non-positive locking connection is able to be produced by means of said elements for pressing-on and/or pressing-in purposes.
The structures for pressing-on and/or pressing-in purposes can be arranged substantially inside the seal housing prior to the installation of the seal in a first position, whilst in a second, installed position, the structures project from the seal housing in order to engage in the groove or in the side walls of the groove in a clawed manner or to abut against the side walls of the groove in an adhering or non-positive locking manner.
The elements for pressing-on and/or pressing-in purposes can be produced from metal and/or plastics material. The elements for pressing-on and/or pressing-in purposes can comprise one or more spikes or can include a toothed contact surface.
The elements for pressing-on and/or pressing-in purposes can have resiliently designed portions. Said resiliently designed portions can force the structures for pressing-on and/or pressing-in purposes from the second position into the first position.
The element or the elements for pressing-on and/or pressing-in purposes and/or the spreading element or the spreading elements and/or the seal housing can have structures for fixing the first and/or the second position of the element or the elements for pressing-on and/or pressing-in purposes in the first and/or the second position. Said structures can be, in particular, indentation and bulges.
In the first position, the spreading element or the spreading elements can project from the seal housing. For moving into the second position, the spreading elements or the spreading element can be pressed into the seal housing. The spreading elements or the spreading element can then be arranged in the second position inside the seal housing. For changing back into the first position, the spreading elements can either be pulled from the seal housing in the reverse direction or, however, in a further embodiment, pressed further into the seal housing. The spreading elements then assume a third position . A method according to the invention for producing seals in accordance with the type according to the invention can be further developed as a result of the seals, following production, being inserted mechanically into a transporting container, for example into a transporting cassette. A method for producing a door leaf having a seal according to the invention can be developed further as a result of the seals being removed mechanically from a transport container, for example from a transport cassette, prior to installation in order to be supplied to the device for installing the seals . A device according to the invention for installing seals in door leaves comprises means for positioning a seal in a groove of a door leaf and tools for fastening the seal on the door leaf. In addition, a device according to the invention for installing seals in door leaves can have means for removing a seal from a transport container, for example from a transport cassette.
The tools of a device according to the invention can include a screwdriver for screwing fastening screws through the holes in the fastening means into the door leaf. The tools can also include pressing means or impact means which press the spreading elements into the housing of the door seals in order to join the elements for pressing-on and/or pressing-in purposes with the door leaf in this manner. A device according to the invention for installing seals in door leaves can include second means for positioning the second portions of the fastening means on the door leaf. Said oositioning means can be, for example, means for bending the second portions in relation to the first portions. Said means can be driven, for example, by means of pressure cylinders.

The seals shown in the Figures comprise a seal housing 2 which is inserted or insertable into a groove in the lower end of a door leaf 1. A mechanism, which is not shown in the Figures, and a sealing means, which is not shown in the Figures either, are usually housed in the seal housing 2. The mechanism is provided for lowering the sealing means in an automatic manner.
The seal housing 2 of the seals is developed in a substantially U-shaped manner and comprises two legs 21, 23 which are connected together by means of a web 22.
Both the door leaf 1 and the seal housing 2 and the legs 21, 23 and the web 22 of the seal housing 2 are designated with the same references in the Figures. The characteristics of the seal housing 2 of the different exemplary embodiments are referred to specifically in each case below.
The seals and in particular the seal housing 2 are fastened to the door leaf 1 by means of fastening means. The various embodiments of the seals according to the invention, which are shown in the Figures, differ by way of the fastening means.
The first exemplary embodiment for a seal according to the invention shown in Figs. 1 and la comprises a three-part fastening means 7. The fastening means 7, in this case, includes two elements 71a, 71b for pressing-on and/or pressing-in purposes, which are realized symmetrically with respect to one another, and one spreading element 74.
The elements 71a, 71b for pressing-on and/or pressing-in purposes are secured on the seal housing 2 by way of a first end 73a, 73b. The first ends 73a, 73b rest, for this purpose, in a positive locking manner in recesses in the legs 21, 23 of the seal housing.
At another end, the elements 71a, 71b comprise structures 72a, 72b for pressing-on and/or pressing-in purposes into the side wall of the groove of the door leaf 1. The structures 72a, 72b engage, for this purpose, through recesses 25 in the legs 21, 23 of the seal housing 2. The region between the two ends 73a, 73b or 72a, 72b of the elements 71a, 71b is realized in a resilient manner and comprises an inwardly presented region 78a, 78b.
The spreading element 74 is inserted between the two elements 71a, 71b. Said spreading element 74 is suitable and intended for the purpose of pressing the elements 71a, 71b with the structures 72a, 72b outward such that the structures 72a, 72b project from the recesses 25 in the legs 21, 23 of the seal housing 2. As a result, the structures 72a, 72b are pressed into the side walls of the groove in the door leaf 1 and are in clawed engagement there, as a result of which the seal housing 2 is fixedly connected to the door leaf 1. The spreading element 74 comprises for each element 71a, 71b two indentations 77a, 77b or 76a, 76b into which the regions 78a, 78b engage and are latched in the first position prior to installation or in the second, installed position.
In the first position of the elements 71a, 71b and of the spreading element 7, the regions 78a, 78b engage in the indentation 77a, 77b which extends further inward. If the spreading element 74 is moved into the second position and if, consequently, the elements 71a and 71b are also moved into their second position, the regions 78a, 78b of the elements 71a, 71b slip over a run-up inclination into the second indentations 76a, 76b which are located further outside. In ) this case, the elements 71a, 71b are pressed outward against their spring force.
In the first position, the spreading element 74 projects from the seal housing. In the second position, in contrast, the ) spreading element 74 closes off laterally with the seal housing 2.
If the connection between the seal and the door leaf 1 is then to be removed, the spreading element 74 and the elements 71a, ) 71b have to be moved back into the first position. To this end, a suitable tool engages in a bore 75 in the spreading element 71 and the spreading element is pulled from the sealing housing 2 until the regions 78a, 78b of the elements 71a, 71b engage in the first indentation 77a, 77b.
I
Fig. lb and Fig. lc show variants to the spreading element 74 shown in Fig. la or Fig. 1. The spreading elements 8 shown there comprise a first portion 81, which corresponds substantially to the spreading element 74 from Fig. 1 and Fig. ) la. A second portion 82, however, connects at right angles thereto outside the seal housing. Said second portion 82 of the spreading element covers a space which remains between the groove base 11 and the web 22 if the seal housing 2 is not installed abutting directly against the groove base 11. A I groove, in which a tool or another suitable object, e.g. a finger nail, is able to engage in order to pull the spreading element 8 out from the seal housing, is provided in the region of the connection between the first portion 81 and the second portion 82.
The spreading element 8 according to Fig. lc comprises finally another third portion 83 which is also arranged at right angles with respect to the first portion 81 outside the seal housing and which covers, in a lateral manner, the mechanism that is fitted in the seal housing 2. The third portion consequently forms a cover which is fitted on the part of the spreading element which is introducible into the seal housing.
The second exemplary embodiment of a seal according to the invention (Figure 2) corresponds substantially to the fifth exemplary embodiment according to Figs. 1 and la. The difference is in the realization of the elements 71a, 71b for pressing-on and/or pressing-in purposes. Whereas in the case of the first exemplary embodiment, two elements are provided for pressing-on and/or pressing-in purposes, the ends 73a, 73b of which are fitted in each case in recesses in the legs 21, 23 of the seal housing 2, the sixth exemplary embodiment of a seal according to the invention comprises two elements 71a, 71b for pressing-on and/or pressing-in purposes, the ends of which are connected together by means of a web 79. The elements 71a, 71b according to the sixth exemplary embodiment are consequently connected together in an integral manner. The fastening means 7 is consequently realized with only two parts. This simplifies the installation of the elements 71a, 71b for pressing-on and/or pressing-in purposes compared to the exemplary embodiment 5.
The fastening means 7, as are provided, for example, in the case of the second exemplary embodiment of a seal according to the invention, can be arranged at both ends of the seals. Each of said fastening means then comprises the elements 71a, 71b for pressing-on and/or pressing-in purposes and a spreading element. The spreading elements must be moved independently of one another into the first or second position in order to install the seal in the groove of the door leaf 1 or to remove it from the groove in the door leaf 1.
Fig. la shows a first variant of the seal according to the invention according to the second embodiment where one common spreading element 74 is provided, the elements 71a, 71b for pressing-on and/or pressing-in purposes being able to spread at two different places of the seal housing. The elements 71a, 71b for pressing-on and/or pressing-in purposes are fitted, for this purpose, in the same direction in the seal housing 2. The common spreading element 74 comprises in each case indentations 76a, 76b or 78a, 78b in which the regions 78a, 78b are able to engage in order to fix the elements for pressing-on and/or pressing-in purposes 71a, 71b in the first or in the second position. The common spreading element 74 comprises a central portion 7c which extends from the fastening point of the one elements 71a, 71b for pressing-on and/or pressing-in purposes to the point for fastening the other elements for pressing-on and/or pressing-in purposes and connects the portions with the indentations 76a, 7 6b or 77a, 77b with one another. As a result of displacing said spreading element 74, it is possible to fasten the seal housing 2 or the seal at two points in the groove of a door leaf 1 by actuating a spreading element 74. The fastening means 7 can be arranged in the end regions of a seal housing 2 or, however, can be arranged between the end regions. In particular, the fastening means 7 can be arranged in a shortened region of the seal,
The second variant of the seal according to the invention according to Figure 2, shown in Figs. 2b to 2d, differs substantially as a result of the elements 71a, 71b for pressing-on and/or pressing-in purposes which, with reference to the spreading element 74, are arranged differently around the same and are connected together by means of a web 79. In addition, in the case of the spreading element of the second variant, the indentation, in which the elements 71a, 71b for pressing-on and/or pressing-in purposes engage in the second position, is omitted. An elastomer sealing profile is designated with the reference 110 in Figs. 6b to 6d.
The third variant shown in Figs. 2e to 2g differs from the second variant substantially as a result of a lateral cover being provided on the free end of the spreading element 74 -similarly as to the seal according to Fig.l c.
The third exemplary embodiment for a seal according to the invention, shown in Figs. 3 and 3a, comprises two elements 91a, 91b for pressing-on and/or pressing-in purposes which are produced preferably as plastics material injection moulded parts. Said elements are realized in two parts, in each case one element being associated with one leg 21, 23 of the seal housing 2. At one end, the resiliently realized elements 91a, 91b comprise a pin 92a or 92b, by way of which the elements 91a, 91b are fitted in a recess of the legs 21, 23. Structures 94a, 94b for pressing-on and/or pressing-in purposes onto the side walls of the groove in the door leaf 1 are provided at the other end. The structures 94a, 94b are toothed such that they are able to press into the lateral boundary surface of the grooves, in particular in the case of timber doors, in order to fix the seal in the groove.
Over and above this, the fastening means of the third exemplary embodiment of a seal according to the invention also comprise a spreading element 95. Said spreading element 95 comprises, on its end pointing into the seal housing 2, lateral bulges 86a, 86b. Said bulges 86a, 86b engage in a first position of the fastening means in corresponding indentations 93a, 93b of the elements 91a, 91b. If the spreading element 95 is pressed in the direction of the centre of the seal housing 2 and is moved into a second position, the bulges 96a, 96b leave the indentations 93a, 93b of the elements 91a, 91b and as a result press the structures 94a, 94b outward into their second position, in which the seal is fixed in the grove of the door leaf 1.
In contrast to the exemplary embodiments 1 to 3, a one-part fastening means 10 is provided in the case of the fourth exemplary embodiment of a seal according to the invention, as is shown in Figs. 4 to 4c. The fastening means 10 is realized in a substantially U-shaped manner, the two legs of the fastening means 10, which proceed from an apex region 101, are realized in a resilient manner. Elements for pressing-on and/or pressing-in purposes form one leg and structures 102a, 102b for pressing-on and/or pressing-in purposes into the side walls of the groove in the door leaf 1 form the ends of the legs .
The ends of the legs project into recesses 25 in the legs 21, 23 of the seal housing 2. As a result of displacing the apex region 101 of the fastening means 10, the ends of the legs with the structures 102a, 102b can be pressed from said recesses 25. The legs, in this case, slide along run-up inclinations 27 which delimit the recesses 25 on one side. A latching lug 103 is provided on the apex region 101 of the fastening means 10. Said latching lug 103 can project into different latching recesses 27 in the web 22 of the seal housing 2 in order to fix the fastening means 10 in different positions. In each position that is defined by the latching recesses 27, the structures 102a, 102b project to a certain extent from the seal housing 2 and can press to different extents against the side walls of the groove in the door leaf 1.
The fastening means 11 of the fifth exemplary embodiment of a seal according to the invention, as is shown in Fig. 5, comprises two identically realized elements 112 for pressing-on and/or pressing-in purposes and a circular disk 111 as spreading element.
The elements for pressing-on and/or pressing-in purposes 112 comprise in each case a structure 112b for pressing-on and/or pressing-in purposes onto the side wall of the groove in the door leaf 1. With reference to said structures 112b, the elements 112 for pressing-on and/or pressing-in purposes are realized in a symmetrical manner. The structures 112b project from the seal housing 2 through a recess 25 in the legs 21, 23 of the said housing. The extent to which the structures 112b project from the seal housing is determined by the position of the spreading element 111.
The spreading element 111 can be moved into three different positions. In a first position 111a, the spreading element is held in indentations 112a on both sides of the elements 112. In said position, the spreading element 111 exerts pressure outward onto the elements 112 in the regions 112a.
If, in contrast, the spreading element 111 is moved out of the first position 111a into the second position 111b, the spreading element is held between the structures 112b of the elements 112 and presses said structures 112b outward. The seal housing is fixed in the groove in the door leaf 1 in said position of the spreading element 111.
If the spreading element 111 is moved into a third position 111c, the spreading elements 112b are released and can spring back into the interior of the seal housing 2. In the third position, the spreading element is held by regions 112c of the elements 112.
For installation, the spreading element is moved out of the position 111a into the position 112b. If, in contrast, the seal housing 2 or the seal are to be removed again, the spreading element can be moved into the third position 111c without a particular tool being needed for this purpose. It is sufficient for the spreading element 111 to be pressed from the second position 111b into the third position 111c by means of a flat object, for example by means of a screwdriver.
