Wasserglas ist verhältnismäßig teuer, und mit Calciumchlorid hergestellte Platten werden sauer und greifen Eisenteile an. Der größte Nachteil dieser Verfahren besteht aber darin, daß die gepreßten Platten etwa 36 Stunden in den Formschalen verbleiben müssen, bis die Masse vollkommen abgebunden ist. Da es andererseits schon lange bekannt ist, das Abbinden von Zement durch Zusatz von Soda zu beschleunigen, hat man auch bei der Herstellung von Leichtbauplatten versucht, durch Soda die Abbindezeit abzukürzen.
