Abstract
Description
The invention relates to an occupant side protection according to the waiter Concept of claim 1.
As is known, vehicle occupants are particularly at risk in one Side crash, i.e. when the side wall of the vehicle collides with a collision opponent, since none in the area of the side wall sufficient space to gain a significant amount for the conversion of kinetic energy into deformation work is the deformation path. There are therefore a large number of Proposals for side protection that takes into account the fact carries that in normal operation of the vehicle between the vehicle sat and the adjacent side skin of the vehicle only extremely little space is available. This condition is primarily taken into account through the use of airbags, which are used in the take up very little space when not activated, however after a crash-related activation and thus in the times in with reasons of comfort or the like in the background Form a cushion between the vehicle occupant and the side wall.
So one from US-PS 37 95 412, B60R 21/08, known, rela tiv old solution a cage-like device hanging on the vehicle roof tion with four side walls, which are covered by nets or the like with vertically extending ones, when activated towards their Hoses extending longitudinal axes are formed; in the event of a crash the occupant including his seat back is caged by this like device enclosed as it were. Although this offers be knew device very much in the event of a side crash limited protection to the occupant, however it is not applicable in combination with - in individual countries law - Seat belt systems with shoulder belt. Difficulties also arise with seat adjustments.
Generic side guards are from 1958 published US-PS 28 34 606 as well as from US-PS 38 97 961, B60R 21/08. The first-mentioned script describes above each side window arranged in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle, in Initial state of folded airbags in the event of a crash down towards positions next to the driving feet stretch the inmates. The subject of US-PS 38 97 961 are so-called called inflatable side curtains that are in the activated state from a roof frame area down to below the height the parapet of the side door concerned extends. These curtains are, as it were, in several airbags thanks to vertical seams divided. Common to these two constructions is the disadvantage that the airbags during inflation, that is, during education the cover, are not performed, so possibly on the Impact vehicle occupants.
Nähere Einzelheiten, insbesondere bezüglich einer Führung, sind dieser Schrift jedoch nicht entnehmbar.DE-OS 15 551 042, 63C 70 also describes an occupant Side protection with several, on the top edge of a window attached inflatable protective elements, which in the event of a crash should form a lateral safety wall. More details, particularly with regard to a tour, however, are this writing not removable.
For the special case of a cover with an airbag Windshield is already one from US-PS 28 06 736 Guide for the airbag expanding from top to bottom knows, but this is so complicated that it is for series production is out of the question. The leadership exists Lich from several telescopic piston-cylinder arrangements that in the event of a frontal crash, simultaneously with the airbag with a Media to be filled. Activation of such a pre direction takes too much time.
The US-PS 49 66 388, B60R 21/16, in turn describes one airbag-equipped occupant side protection, but this is at rest condition housed in a vehicle door and occurs at activation from a flap that then opens in the upward direction; by means of Velcro fasteners it should then be attached to a roof frame rich and vertical windows adjacent to the respective window hold the vehicle's pillars. The expansion movement of the airbag from the bottom up, however, is disadvantageous in that the driving witness inmate often with one arm on an armrest or - especially when the side window is open - on the door sill supports, so that the expansion path of the airbag is not free.
From US-PS 36 87 485, B60R 21/08, finally an occupant Side protection known, the one at rest along a Dachrah area and along a window pillar of the vehicle folded network, which is in cable connection with an airbag stands for a vehicle occupant sitting in a rear seat and accordingly when activating this airbag in a stretched position is unfolded in front of a vehicle window. This side protection has the fundamental disadvantage that such a machined nth network hardly an effective "cushion", i. H. ultimately one out sufficient deformation path, especially for the head of a driving occupant forms.
Like this overview of the relevant state of the art shows, there is a need for a generic occupant side protection that is provided in the event of a side crash (detected by a usual acceleration or buckling sensor) certainly one predefined position, in particular with regard to the head of a vehicle occupies witnesses.
The inventive solution to this problem consists in the characterizing features of claim 1, advantageous Ausge Events of the invention describe the subclaims.
Compared to the last discussed state of the art with a formed by a net side protection, the invention has the Advantage that in the event of a crash cover - especially before projecting vehicle parts, such as belt retractors and the same - arises, the same as a result of using airbags sam a soft padding for the head of the vehicle occupant, however also for his shoulder area. Opposite the the state of the art with airbags In contrast, the invention has the advantage that the airbags in the crash case formed cover a defined position and shape takes, if one according to claim 10 at a distance ends above the door sill, even if the vehicle occupant with one arm resting on the parapet.
Es zeigen:Several embodiments of the invention are set out below hand of the drawing explained. Show it:

Fig. 8, also in the activated state, a further embodiment in which the airbags in the initial state are pulled around an upper corner of the window.
If one looks first at FIGS. 1 and 2, one can see at 1 a construction with the side window 2 that is customary and not to be described here. In the roof frame area 3 and also in the upper areas of the A-pillar 4 and the B-pillar 5 , in the initial state, a plurality of airbags are folded together to form an airbag arrangement, generally designated 6 , in FIGS . 3 and 4. After activation ( FIGS. 1 and 2), the four airbags 7 , 8 , 9 , 10 of the airbag arrangement 6 form the side cover, generally designated 11 , for a vehicle occupant sitting next to the door 1 in this exemplary embodiment. The approximately U-shaped uppermost airbag 7 extends over all hard parts in the area of the frame arrangement covered by it.
In this exemplary embodiment, two gas generators 12 and 13 in the A and B pillars serve to inflate the airbags. To direct the gas into the airbags, as indicated by the arrow in FIG. 2, correspondingly densely designed areas of the window pillars and the roof frame can be used.
Auch das elastische Seil 15 am untersten Airbag 10 dient der Unterstützung der Bildung der Abdeckung 11.As can be seen from a comparison of FIGS. 1 to 4, the air bag arrangement 6 is practically invisible below the roof lining in the folded state of the air bags. When activated, the se can be locally deformed or destroyed so that it releases the airbags 7 to 10 . Since the top, approximately U-shaped airbag 3 is connected not only to the roof frame area 3 , but also to the window pillars 4 and 5 , the cover 11 is essentially formed by inflating the airbags 8 , 9 and 10 , which accordingly Arrows in Fig. 4 have to expand substantially in the downward direction. It may be appropriate, in order to optimize this spreading process, to inflate the individual airbags with a pre-determined (very small) time offset, that is to say in such a way that the lowermost airbag 10 supports the deployment of the airbags 8 and 9 above it. The elastic rope 15 on the lowest airbag 10 also serves to support the formation of the cover 11 .
As shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 show, the cover 11 terminates at a predetermined distance above the window a breastwork 14. This takes into account the fact that vehicle occupants often support their arm on the window sill, especially when the window is open.
. In the embodiment of Figures 5 and 6, the Ab cover 20, in turn, of four air bags 21, 22, 23, and 24, of which the airbag 21 - such as the air bag 7 in Fig. 2 - in the activated to stand the roof frame area 3 covers and which also run here in the fourth state with their longitudinal axes essentially horizontal. After activation, only the uppermost airbag 21 forms a kind of frame for the other three airbags 22 , 23 and 24 ; the two gas generators 25 and 26 are also assigned to it. Accordingly, it is in communication with openings or the like in connection with the airbags 22 , 23 and 24th As indicated by the arrow in Fig. 5, the cover 20 is again formed, starting from a roof frame area, in the downward direction. This is taken into account in this exemplary embodiment in that on the A-pillar 27 and B-pillar 28 slide or roller guides in the manner of roller blind guides 29 or 30 for the "legs" of the uppermost airbag 21 and for the ends of the further airbags 22 , 23 and 24 are provided. Despite the permanent existence of a connection between the airbags and the window pillars 27 and 28 , which prevent horizontal movements of the airbags in directions parallel and perpendicular to the window pane, this construction is due to the provision of the guides 29 and 30 but one with relatively low forces and therefore very much rapid movement of the airbags to form the cover 20 ensured.
In Fig. 5 a relatively strong inclined course of the A-pillar is adopted 29 27, and thus the path of the guides. It is expedient to take this fact into account according to FIG. 6 by means of a corresponding folding 31 of the airbags, so that when they are activated they not only increase their extension in the vertical direction, but also their length extension to adapt to the course of the guide 29 .
. After a somewhat different principle, the protective device of Figure 7 is constructed: One can see with their longitudinal axes perpendicular wei send airbags 40, 41, 42, 43 and 44, where individual generators 45, 46, 47, are assigned in the roof frame area of 50 48 and 49 . In this exemplary embodiment, the cover 51 consisting of the airbags 40 to 44 shown in the activated state does not cover the entire length of the window 52 , but in any case the region of the side wall of the vehicle close to the head. The airbag 40 covers, in particular, the window pillar 53 and protruding parts provided on it, such as deflections for a seat belt, against direct contact with the head of the occupant. In the initial state all air bags are merged into a short concertina ring, and around the crash their expansion in the downward direction accelerate to be is 40 turn 54 associated with the column 53 covering the airbag a shade guide for making a permanent connection to the window pillar 53rd A sequential activation of the airbags can also be advantageous here.
The embodiment of FIG. 8 finally shows a cover 60 from three - here drawn in the activated state - airbags 61 , 62 and 63 , which lie around the upper left corner of the window 64 in the idle state, but after activation a cover 60 with form approximately diametrically with respect to the window 64 duri fender lower edge 65 . Only the top, in the side view of Figure 8, an approximately rectangular configuration forming airbag 61 is firmly connected to the roof frame area 66 and the window column 67 ; these two support areas 66 and 67 serve to accommodate in this embodiment, in turn two gas generators 68 and 69 , which feed in parallel in all airbags 61 , 62 and 63 .
Provided there is no space for the sub in the frame areas or columns bring the gas generators is available, they can for example, arranged close to the ground and via lines with the airbags be connected.
With the invention is accordingly a generic occupant pages Protection for a motor vehicle created in the event of a crash targeted expansion of the airbags and a defined location of the ensures cover formed by them.
