Das als Backpulverbestandteil bekannte Natriumhydrogencarbonat reagiert mit der Säure und bildet daher im Putz kleine Bläschen oder Hohlräume. Die ebenfalls als Backtreibmittel bekannten Zusatzstoffe Ammoniumhydrogencarbonat und Kaliumcarbonat reagieren im Putz ähnlich. Dies führt zu einer Verbesserung der Schall- und Wärmedämmung. Überraschenderweise wird aber auch die Oberfläche des Putzes abriebbeständiger und sehr viel härter als ohne die erfindungsgemäßen Zusatzstoffe. Bei dem Lehmputz ist eine starke Verfestigung zu beobachten, so dass bei der Verarbeitung dieses Putzes ein sogenannter Kellenschlag machbar ist. Dabei erhält der Lehm zwar einerseits eine enorm harte Struktur, verliert aber nichts von seinen sonstigen guten Eigenschaften. insbesondere bleibt die hohe Wasseraufnahmefähigkeit und die Dampfdurchlässigkeit erhalten.
