Abstract
A make-up removal composition comprises at least one of each of a silicone-based emulsifier, a branched liquid alkane, a emollient ester, ether or carbonate, a humectant, and water. In some embodiments, the composition may further comprise one or more additives, including preservatives, actives and perfumes.
Description
RELATED APPLICATIONS
The present application claims the benefit of U.S. non-provisional patent application No. 17/038,943, filed on 9/30/2020, and french application No. 2013074, filed on 12/11/2020, each of which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety.
Technical Field
The invention relates to a moisturizing no-rinse makeup removal composition.
Background
Removal of make-up has been a challenge and a consumer's pain spot, particularly mascara and waterproof mascara, permanent foundation and more permanent lip products. Typical make-up removal products do not remove the make-up effectively, and therefore require repeated pulling and rubbing on the skin and/or delicate eye areas, causing irritation. Some oil-based make-up removal products are easy to remove but impart discomfort and greasy feel to the skin. Less greasy substitutes can soil and leave cosmetic residues. Many of the existing compositions also require rinsing after use. Thus, there is a need for a composition that not only provides clean and comfortable feel to the skin after use, but also allows for easy and effective removal of makeup and does not require subsequent washing and rinsing.
Disclosure of Invention
To solve the deficiencies in the makeup removing product (MUR) field, the present inventors have provided a moisturizing no-rinse (no-rinse) makeup removing composition that is capable of easily and effectively removing makeup and imparting a soft smooth feel to the skin after use.
In various embodiments, the present disclosure provides a make-up removal composition comprising:
i. at least one silicone-based emulsifier;
at least one branched liquid alkane having a carbon chain length of C12 to C20;
at least one emollient ester, ether or carbonate having a carbon chain length of C12 to C24;
at least one humectant; and
v. water.
In various embodiments, the composition may include more than one of each component. In some embodiments, the composition may further comprise one or more additives, including preservatives, actives and perfumes.
According to some embodiments:
i. at least one silicone-based emulsifier comprises from about 0.5% to about 20% by weight of the composition;
at least one branched liquid alkane comprises from about 1% to about 15% by weight of the composition;
at least one emollient ester, ether, or carbonate from about 0.5% to about 10% by weight of the composition;
at least one humectant comprises from about 10% to about 20% by weight of the composition; and is also provided with

Fig. 1 is a data plot in the form of a 2D chart showing makeup removal efficacy for compositions according to the present disclosure and comparative compositions.
Detailed Description
By "cosmetically acceptable" is meant a carrier compatible with any keratinous substrate.
"keratinous substrate" and "keratinous tissue" each include, but are not limited to, skin, hair, and nails.
The composition according to the present disclosure comprises at least one of a silicone-based emulsifier, a branched liquid alkane having a carbon chain length of C12 to C20, a emollient ester, ether or carbonate having a carbon chain length of C12 to C24, a humectant, and water. In some embodiments, the composition may further comprise one or more additives, including preservatives, actives and perfumes.
The compositions according to the present disclosure are water-in-oil (silicone oil as exemplified herein) emulsions. In contrast to the more common types of oil-in-water emulsion skin cleanser formulations, water-in-oil emulsions are sometimes referred to as inverse emulsions. The composition has a creamy gel texture, has a moderate to long-term use time, is comfortable to apply and is not immediately absorbed or volatilized by the skin. After massaging the face, the composition is effective in dissolving the eye, face and lip makeup. The use of paper towels or cosmetic cottons allows the user to gently wipe off the dissolved cosmetic. The composition does not need to be washed after being applied, so that the skin feels smooth and moist, and is not greasy or sticky.
In accordance with the present disclosure, the compositions of the present invention overcome the shortcomings of the prior art and provide unexpected benefits including easy removal of make-up overall, easy removal of foundation, easy removal of mascara (both conventional and waterproof) without friction, improved overall efficacy over commercial comparative compositions, clean and fresh skin feel, softness and smoothness, no greasiness, no residue and pleasant fragrance.
By expert evaluation of makeup removal efficacy, exemplary embodiments of compositions according to the present disclosure demonstrate significantly better performance in removing mascara (including waterproof mascara) and permanent foundation solutions than MUR currently on the market. Exemplary embodiments of the compositions according to the present disclosure not only provide better performance in terms of makeup removal efficacy, including improved performance in removing both mascara and foundation, but also provide an experience that is more pleasant to the person and relatively better skin feel after use.

Example 3: expert evaluation:
the efficacy of the compositions of the present invention in make-up and mascara removal was demonstrated in comparison to the comparative compositions.
A study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of the compositions of the present invention in comparison to commercially available MURs (comparative compositions) having generally similar components. In the study, trained/professional beauticians used the test compositions to remove heavy facial makeup (Maybelline (TM) super long lasting 24 hours full coverage foundation) and mascara (Maybelline (TM) Colossal Big Shot mascara and Express waterproof mascara).
The makeup removal efficacy was determined by following the regimen of the cosmetic product applied by the beautician to six (6) white women. After 30 minutes, the cosmetologist removes makeup using test products (invention and comparative), uses 3 cosmetic cottons, each of which is soaked with 2ml of test composition for removing mascara, and 2 cosmetic cottons, each of which is soaked with 2ml of test composition for removing foundation liquid. Degree of removal by use ofThe amount of residual cosmetic removed by Bi-facility (TM) make-up remover (a two-phase make-up remover product) was evaluated by 2mL on the cosmetic cotton for up to 4 cosmetic cottons. The higher the make-up removal efficacy of the test formulation, the less cosmetic cotton is required to be removed with Bi-facility (TM), since the less cosmetic remains. Make-up removal efficacy data was plotted using a 2D chart, as shown in fig. 1 Showing; the data shown in fig. 1 are shown in table 7.

The term "comprising" is intended to be inclusive or open ended and does not exclude any additional, unrecited elements, methods, steps, or materials. The term "consisting of … …" does not include any element, step or material other than the elements, steps or materials specified in the claims, and in the latter case does not include impurities normally associated with the specified materials. The term "consisting essentially of limits the scope of the claims to those specified elements, steps or materials and those that do not materially affect the basic and novel characteristics of the claimed disclosure. In alternative embodiments, all materials and methods described herein that embody the present disclosure may be more specifically defined by any of the transitional terms "comprising," consisting essentially of.
The terms "free" and "absent" mean that no excluded material is present in the composition that can be reliably measured, typically 0% by weight based on the total weight of the composition. The term "substantially free" means that although it is preferred that no excluded materials are present in the composition, it is possible to have very small amounts of excluded materials in the compositions of the present invention, provided that such amounts do not materially affect the advantageous properties of the composition. In particular, "substantially free" means that the excluded material may be present in the composition in an amount less than about 0.1% by weight, based on the total weight of the composition.
Except in the operating examples, or where otherwise indicated, all numbers expressing quantities of ingredients and/or reaction conditions are to be understood as being modified in all instances by the term "about" to indicate within 10% of the indicated number (e.g., "about 10%" indicates 9% to 11% and "about 2%" indicates 1.8% to 2.2%).
All percentages and ratios are by weight unless otherwise indicated. All percentages are calculated on the total composition unless otherwise indicated. In general, unless explicitly stated otherwise herein, "weight" or "amount" relative to a percent amount of an ingredient, as used herein, refers to the amount of a starting material comprising the ingredient, wherein the starting material may be described herein as comprising less than or up to 100% activity of the ingredient. Thus, the weight percent of active agent in the composition is expressed as the amount of raw material containing the active agent used, and may or may not reflect the final percentage of active agent, where the final percentage of active agent depends on the weight percent of active agent in the raw material.
The terms "weight percent" and "wt%" are used interchangeably and refer to weight percent based on the total weight of a composition, article, or material, except as related to, for example, a phase, or system provision as part of a composition, article, or material. All ranges and amounts given herein are intended to encompass sub-ranges and amounts using any disclosed point as an endpoint. Thus, a range of "1% to 10%, such as 2% to 8%, such as 3% to 5%", is intended to encompass a range of "1% to 8%", "1% to 5%", "2% to 10%", etc. All numbers, amounts, ranges, etc. are intended to be modified by the term "about," whether or not so explicitly stated. Similarly, a range of "about 1% to 10%" is given, with the term "about" being intended to modify 1% and 10% endpoints. Furthermore, it should be understood that when the amounts of the components are given, it is intended to represent the amounts of the active materials unless specifically stated otherwise.
Notwithstanding that the numerical ranges and parameters setting forth the broad scope of the disclosure are approximations, the numerical values set forth in the specific examples are reported as precisely as possible unless otherwise indicated. Any numerical value, however, inherently contains certain errors necessarily resulting from the standard deviation found in their respective testing measurements. The following examples are illustrative of embodiments of the present disclosure, but are not limiting in nature.
All publications and patent applications cited in this specification are herein incorporated by reference and for any and all purposes as if each individual publication or patent application were specifically and individually indicated to be incorporated by reference. If there is an inconsistency between the present disclosure and any of the publications or patent applications incorporated by reference herein, the present disclosure shall control.
