背景技术
便携式信息设备(例如,膝上型计算机、笔记本计算机、个人数字助理等等)的用户具有两个经常的需要:(1)网络连接和(2)接入电功率。短期电功率可以由电池提供,但是往往也需要用于再充电或延长操作的便携式电源。网络连接可以是有线的、无线的或者是两者兼有。当前的有线网络标准的示例是IEEE 802.3(以太网)。当前的无线网络标准的示例是IEEE 802.11。可以在机场、咖啡店和一些办公环境处提供无线网络接入。然而在一些环境中,仅有线网络可用。当前的便携式信息设备往往具有无线联网能力、和有线网络能力,其中具有用于有线网络电缆的连接器以及用于外部功率(用于给操作供电或电池充电或两者)的连接器。这种便携式设备的移动用户除了便携式信息设备之外往往还携带外部电源。存在对改进便携性的不断需要。

一些便携式信息设备正变得如此小且薄以致用于有线联网的连接器将影响产品的整体厚度。因此,期望的是此类产品消除有线网络电子器件和连接器并且提供仅无线联网能力。这实现较小、较薄的便携式信息设备。然而,一些使用位置只有有线网络可用。无线接入点(WAP)是一种可以用来把无线通信设备(无线客户端)连接到有线网络并且可以在有线和无线设备之间中继数据的设备。如果具有仅无线联网的便携式信息设备的用户需要一直能够接入网络,则WAP设备也可能需要被携带。用户于是需要携带便携式信息设备、WAP和电源。如下面更详细描述的,依据本发明的示例实施例的WAP为便携式信息设备提供功率,消除了对单独的便携式电源的需要。
图1A示出示例WAP组件100,其包括用于与便携式信息设备104进行无线双向通信的天线102。便携式信息设备104是WAP组件100的无线客户端。WAP组件100具有用于有线网络电缆108的连接器106。WAP组件100也具有用于连接到AC市电电源的功率输入电缆110。最后,WAP组件100具有用于把功率提供到便携式信息设备104的功率输出电缆112。使用WAP组件100的内部电源也给便携式信息设备104提供功率(用于操作、或用于电池再充电、或两者)意味着便携式信息设备104的用户不必携带单独的电源。便携式信息设备的用户可以携带单个附件(WAP组件100)以用于供电和用于有线网络环境中的网络连接。
在图1A中,天线102可以从WAP组件100延伸或者可以被嵌入。电缆108、110和112中的每一个可以被附连或者可以通过连接器进行连接。WAP组件可以直接插入AC市电电源而不是具有单独的AC功率电缆。
图1B示出WAP组件100的附加细节。WAP组件100包括提供WAP功能性(用来把无线通信设备连接到有线网络,并且可以在有线和无线设备之间中继数据)的WAP电子器件部分114。WAP电子器件部分114可以从内部电源116接收功率,如箭头118所描绘的。可替换地,如果功率可通过连接器106从附连的有线网络获得,则WAP电子器件部分114可以从该网络接收功率,如箭头120所描绘的。网络适配器通过连接器106向有线网络发送数据和从有线网络接收数据,如双箭头122所描绘的。电源116在需要时也经由电缆112给便携式信息设备提供可移除功率。
如果有线网络是以太网,则连接器106典型地具有8个位置和8个触点,具有名为T568A/B的布线方案,其中物理连接器通常被称为RJ45插孔。在一些配置中,一对触点用于以太网供电(PoE)。如果PoE可用,则WAP电子器件部分114可以任选地从网络接收功率。
典型的WAP可以与位于大约100m内的30个无线客户端通信。典型地,WAP广播服务组标识符(SSID),并且在范围内的所有无线设备可以检测WAP的存在并且读取其标识符。因而,把WAP添加到有线网络环境中会产生安全性问题。相比而言,在示例实施例中,WAP组件100被配置为仅供单个无线客户端(便携式信息设备104)使用。在图1B中,WAP电子器件部分114包括控制器124,其也包括非易失性存储器。当WAP组件100与无线客户端配对时,控制器124把无线客户端的介质访问控制(MAC)地址存储在非易失性存储器中。此后,WAP组件100将仅与具有所存储的MAC地址的无线客户端无线地通信。
安全配对的过程如下所述。在默认的状态下,SSID广播被禁用。名称、密码和加密密钥在制造时被安装在WAP的控制器存储器中,和/或连同WAP一起被提供在计算机可读介质上,以便只有WAP以及该计算机可读介质的购买者可以使WAP与无线客户端配对。该计算机可读介质包括用于配对WAP与无线客户端的代码。只有提供正确的SSID、名称、密码(信息被正确加密)的无线客户端会使WAP记录无线客户端的MAC地址。一旦MAC地址被控制器124存储,在将来WAP组件100将仅与具有所存储的MAC地址的无线客户端无线地通信。
可能期望的是在已经存储了第一MAC地址后使WAP组件100与不同的无线客户端配对。在图1B中,任选的SYNC按钮开关126将使WAP电子器件部分114擦除任何存储的MAC地址并且重新启动配对(同步)过程。新的无线客户端必须知道SSID、名称、密码、加密密钥等等以使得其能够与WAP组件100配对。
图2示出用于任选地配置WAP组件100的示例方法。在步骤200,WAP接收特定无线客户端的地址。在步骤202,WAP存储该地址。在步骤204,WAP然后仅与该特定无线客户端无线地通信。在步骤206,响应于同步请求(例如,通过按下SYNC开关126),WAP擦除所存储的MAC地址并且再次从头开始该过程。图2中的不是所有步骤都是必需的。例如,只有接收到同步请求时,才发生步骤206。
RF发射器在一些环境例如一些医院的部分中被禁止。然而,便携式信息设备的用户仍然可能希望在不进行无线通信的情况下把WAP组件100用作电源或充电器。为了避免非故意的RF传输,只有网络电缆连接到连接器106时,WAP电子器件部分114才打开无线传输。

Claims (7)

1. 一种电子组件,包括:
无线接入点,其具有连接到有线网络的能力;
电源;
用于把功率从该电源提供到该无线接入点的连接;以及
用于把功率从该电源提供到单独的设备的连接。
2. 权利要求1的电子组件,该无线接入点还包括:
用于从有线网络接收功率的连接。
3. 权利要求1的电子组件,该无线接入点还包括:
具有非易失性存储器的控制器,该非易失性存储器存储特定无线客户端的地址,该无线接入点配置成仅与该特定无线客户端无线地通信。
4. 权利要求3的电子组件,该无线接入点还包括:
开关,其中该开关的激活使无线接入点擦除所存储的地址并且启动同步过程。
5. 权利要求1的电子组件,该无线接入点配置成仅在连接到有线网络时才提供无线传输。
6. 一种配置无线接入点的方法,包括:
由该无线接入点接收来自特定无线客户端的地址;
由该无线接入点存储该地址;以及
该无线接入点仅与该特定无线客户端无线地通信。
7. 权利要求6的方法,还包括:
响应于同步请求,由该无线接入点擦除所存储的地址;以及
启动同步过程。
