Abstract

Description
本申请是申请号为200480017183.2,申请日为2004年6月23日,发明名称为“光纤连接器固定器及方法”的中国专利申请的分案申请。
技术领域
本发明总体上涉及用于光纤连接器的固定器并且更具体地涉及由防尘帽所保护的光纤连接器的固定器。
背景技术
光纤连接器包括典型地由箍(ferrule)所支持的抛光端面,其允许设置由连接器所支持的光纤以接收和发射另一光纤或光学光源的信号。理想的是保持这些抛光的端面尽可能无污染,以改善光到由连接器所支持的光纤以及从所述光纤的传输。可能负面影响光到光纤或从光纤的传输的这种污染包括但不局限于灰尘和指印。
防尘帽可被提供给连接器,以保护光纤的抛光端面。然而,当这种防尘帽在适当的位置时,连接器不能被容纳在公知的光纤适配器中,如在U.S.专利No.5,317,663和U.S.专利No.6,347,888中所描述的那些。这些专利的公开在此引入作为参考。当除尘盖被移除时,连接器可被插入这些公知适配器之一中,用于交叉连接点、互连点或一些其它类型的电信交换或连接设备的存储或预接线。虽然适配器可为插入适配器中的单个连接器提供一些对污染的保护,但是这些适配器在保护抛光端面方面并不像防尘帽一样有效。

发明内容

具体实施方式
现在将详细参考在附图中所示的本发明的示范性方面。在可能的地方,相同的参考数字将贯穿附图而使用以指示相同或相似的部件。
光缆可以光纤连接器而终止,如在下面图8至14中所示的连接器100。这些线缆内的光纤可终止于由连接器100中的箍102所支持的抛光端面,正如在本领域中众所周知且在U.S.专利No.5,317,663中所示得到,所述专利在此引入作为参考。这些抛光端面和箍102需要被存储和保护,直到被需要来连接到其它光缆或光信号设备。
防尘盖104可经常被置于箍102和光纤的抛光端面周围,以保护抛光端面免受来自灰尘、指印或可使光信号传输降级的其它物品的污染。虽然众所周知的是将这些存储在公知的光纤适配器中,直到在所附着的线缆内的光纤需要连接到另一光缆或光信号设备,但是这样的 存储较不理想,因为适配器不象牢固配合且支持在连接器100的箍102周围的防尘帽104那样好地密封抛光端面使其免于污染。公知的适配器不允许连接器100的插入,所述连接器100仍然具有防尘帽104,所述防尘帽处于合适位置,在箍102和线缆的抛光端面周围。
现在参考图1和2,连接器固定器10包括限定内部腔14的主壳12。开口端18允许连接器100插入腔14中,而相对的开口16允许防尘帽104从连接器固定器10突出。夹20被设置在主壳12周围且包括一对弹簧安装夹22。一对法兰24从相邻于弹簧夹22的主壳12的相对侧26延伸。如下面所示,夹22和法兰24合作以将固定器10可释放性地安装到隔板中的开口。
主壳12还包括带有键槽28的底部30以容纳连接器100的键控延伸,以一致地导引连接器100以插入腔14中。与底部30相对的是开顶闭合盖32。这在下面的图12中更详细地示出。图3至7提供连接器固定器10的另外的视图。
现在参考图8至13,连接器10被示出带有设置在腔18内的连接器100。防尘帽104从连接器固定器10的开口16延伸,而连接器100被插入通过开口端14。
现在参考图13和14,连接器固定器10进一步包括内壳34,其具有一对相对的可释放的钩36及其大小被确定为用以适合容纳防尘帽104的开口38。内壳34通过顶部开口40被设置在主壳12内,其中开口38相邻于开口16而钩36相邻于开口端14。然后盖32被设置在顶部开口40内而夹20被置于盖32及主壳12周围。盖32可通过粘合、超声波焊接或各种已知的紧固技术被密封在顶部开口40内。连接器100包括一对相对的凹陷106,当连接器100被插入固定器10内时其容纳钩36。
如所示,连接器100及固定器10是SC型式。连接器100及固定器10可与电连接器和适配器的其它型式及格式一致,而不偏离本发明 的实质。
现在参考图15,主壳12还包括沿着腔14两侧的缝隙42用以将内壳34的法兰容纳并设置在腔14内。凹陷44沿着侧26被提供以容纳夹20。顶部开口40包括壁架(ledge)46,盖32被设置其上以闭合腔14。外隔板68形成开口16的部分。内隔板45被设置得与外隔板68间隔开,并且这些隔板合作以限定缝隙42。在隔板45和68之间是限定缝隙42底部的定位表面43。
现在参考图16至21,内壳34包括从跨接件(cross piece)50延伸的一对夹臂48。用于容纳连接器100的防尘帽104的开口108在跨接件50中。钩36处于与跨接件50相对的夹臂48的末端。跨接件50包括被容纳在主壳12的缝隙42中的一对法兰52。如图18中所示,钩36包括倾斜部分54,当连接器100通过连接器固定器10的开口端18被插入腔14内时,所述倾斜部分54被连接器100所接合。夹臂48被偏转向外,允许连接器100通过钩36之间。当连接器100被完全插入腔14内时(如图13中所示),钩36被容纳在凹陷106内且每个钩36的保持表面(retaining surface)56将连接器100支持在腔14内。
内壳34被配置成允许在两个方向的任一上插入主壳12的腔14的缝隙42内。跨接件50的一对边缘66相对于盖32和主壳12适当地将内壳设置在腔14内,以使开口38被对准以容纳防尘帽104。
现在参考图22至28,盖32包括凹陷58用于沿着外表面68容纳夹20。同样在外表面68中的是用于容纳标记的凹陷72。沿着内表面70形成一对边缘64,其被配置成被容纳在主壳12的壁架46上。从内表面70延伸的是外法兰60,其与主壳12内的隔板68合作以限定开口16。也从内表面70延伸的是内法兰62,其与外法兰60间隔开以形成缝隙63。缝隙63与主壳12的缝隙42合作以容纳内壳34的法兰52。
在缝隙63的顶部是定位表面61,其与内壳34的边缘66的一个合作以将内壳34定位在腔14内,以使内壳34的开口38与开口16对准。 当被组装为连接器固定器10时,主壳12的定位表面43与盖32的定位表面61合作以接合内壳34的两个边缘66。主壳12的缝隙42和盖32的缝隙63合作以捕获内壳34的法兰52。
现在参考图29至32,夹20包括跨接件74和一对相对侧76。弹簧夹22形成在侧76中。侧76被容纳在主壳12的凹陷44内而跨接件74被容纳在盖32的凹陷58内。预计的是夹20将由弹性的可变形金属制成以方便插入隔板中的开口以及从其移除。弹簧夹22每个包括端78和倾斜表面80。

连接器固定器10的开口端18被插入通过开口84,直至开口84的一对侧86接合弹簧夹22的倾斜表面80。连接器固定器10的继续插入将导致隔板侧86将弹簧夹22向内偏转向侧26。隔板侧86将最终穿出弹簧夹22的端78。如图34中所示,弹簧夹22随后将弹回,将隔板侧86捕获于端78和法兰24之间。通过在与上述插入相反的方向上压缩并移除弹簧夹22,连接器固定器10可从开口84被移除。
可替换地,法兰24可被配置成包括紧固件开口,以使连接器固定器10可通过可移除的紧固件被安装在开口84内。
期望的是隔板应该被足够广泛地解释成包括电信装置(installation),其中用于安装适配器和连接器固定器的开口84被包括到滑动适配器组件中,如在被共同拥有的U.S.专利No.5,497,444中所描述的。这个专利的公开在此引入作为参考。隔板还应该被足够广泛地解释成:包括在用于交叉连接或互连多个光缆的电信模块以及其中一个或多个适配器可安装在开口84内的其它电信装置的壁或板、面 板中的单个开口。
现在参考图35至38,防尘帽104包括:中央开口108,当箍102被插入通过开口端110时用来容纳箍102。相对于开口端110的是闭合端112,其包括滚花(knurling)114提供更好握力以便移除防尘帽104。中央开口108配合在箍102周围,以提供围绕箍102的密封并且将防尘帽支持到连接器100上。当箍102被插入时一为中央开口108内空气体积的减少(见图13),一个或更多个螺旋形的凹陷116沿着内壁118被提供在中央开口108内。凹陷116从相邻的闭合端112延伸到开口端110。凹陷116足够小,以当箍102被插入时防止不需要的污染进入并且仍然允许移置于中央开口108内的气体被排出,以使防尘帽104可完全地密封连接器100。当防尘帽104被从箍102中抽出时,凹陷116还允许气体通过到中央开口108中。每个凹陷116的形状还被设计成:当防尘帽104被从箍102摘下或被置于其上时,允许气体进入中央开口108且从中出去的气体通路,同时抑制沿着同一路径的污染通路。

1.一种用于支持具有防尘帽的光纤连接器的光纤连接器固定器,所述防尘帽被安装在支持光纤抛光端面的箍周围,所述连接器固定器包括:
主壳,其限定具有大小适合于容纳所述光纤连接器及所述防尘帽的开口端的腔、顶部、底部及到一对相对侧;
内壳,设置在所述主壳内,并且包括大小适合于在所述光纤连接器被容纳在所述主壳的开口端中时容纳所述防尘帽的防尘帽开口;
所述内壳包括至少一个保持夹,其可释放性地闩锁到所述光纤连接 器上并且可释放性地将所述光纤连接器支持在所述主壳的开口端内。
2.根据方案1所述的光纤连接器固定器,其中所述主壳大小适合于配合在隔板中的开口内,所述隔板具有与适配器相同的占用空间以便容纳并光学连接一对光纤连接器。

13.一种用于支持带有支持光纤抛光端面的箍的光纤连接器的光纤连接器固定器,所述连接器固定器包括:
主壳,限定具有大小适合于容纳所述光纤连接器的开口端的腔、顶部、底部及到一对相对侧;
内壳,被设置在所述主壳内;
所述内壳包括至少一个保持夹,其可释放性地闩锁到所述光纤连接器上并且可释放性地将所述光纤连接器支持在所述主壳的开口端内;以及
所述主壳包括与所述开口端相对的相对端,所述开口端被配置成不容纳任何光纤连接器。
14.一种用于支持光纤连接器的系统,包括:
包括多个适配器开口的隔板,所述适配器开口大小适合于容纳被配置成光学连接在所述纤连接器内的光缆的适配器;
多个适配器,安装在所述隔板中所述适配器开口内;
多个光纤连接器固定器,安装在所述隔板中的其它适配器开口内,所述光纤连接器固定器包括:具有中央腔的壳,所述中央腔具有开口端,所述开口端大小适合于容纳带有支持光纤抛光端面的箍的光纤连接器;以及保持装置,在所述腔内,用以可释放性地支持所述腔内的所述光纤连接器;以及
至少一个光纤连接器,在所述光纤连接器固定器的腔内;
其中所述光纤连接器固定器可从所述适配器开口及被安装在同一适配器开口内的适配器中移除。
15.一种支持光纤连接器的方法,包括:
提供具有多个适配器开口的隔板及被安装在所述适配器开口之一内的光纤连接器固定器,所述光纤连接器包括具有中央腔的壳,所述中央腔具有大小适合于容纳所述光纤连接器的开口端,以可释放性地将所述光纤连接器支持在所述腔内;
设置终止于包括箍和抛光端面的光纤连接器的光缆,以使所述光纤 连接器紧接于所述隔板,以及
将所述光纤连接器插入所述光纤连接器固定器内,以使所述光纤连接器接合所述固定器,其中所述固定器不可支持与所述光纤连接器相对设置的第二光纤连接器。
根据方案15所述的方法,进一步包括下述步骤:将所述光纤连接器从所述固定器中移除,以及将所述光纤连接器插入被安装在所述隔板中的适配器;所述适配器包括与所述光纤连接器相对设置的第二光纤连接器。
Claims (4)
1.一种用于支持具有防尘帽的光纤连接器的光纤连接器固定器,所述防尘帽被安装在所述光纤连接器的箍周围,所述光纤连接器支持光纤抛光端面,所述连接器固定器包括:
连接器固定器壳,其具有位于和第二侧相对的第一侧,所述连接器固定器壳限定在所述连接器固定器壳的第一侧具有开口端的内部腔,所述内部腔被配置以支持光纤连接器;
所述光纤连接器被插入到所述连接器固定器壳中,所述光纤连接器包括箍,所述箍支持具有抛光端面的光纤;以及
所述防尘帽具有位于和闭合端相对并且限定中央开口的开口端,所述防尘帽的中央开口被安装在所述光纤连接器的箍上以提供围绕箍的密封并且将所述防尘帽支持到所述光纤连接器,所述防尘帽在所述光纤连接器被存储于所述连接器固定器壳的同时被安装在所述光纤连接器的所述箍上,
其中,所述连接器固定器壳允许所述光纤连接器被插入到所述连接器固定器壳而所述防尘帽位于所述箍周围。
2.根据权利要求1所述的光纤连接器固定器,其中所述连接器固定器壳包括弹簧夹和法兰,所述弹簧夹和法兰被配置以将所述连接器固定器固定到隔板。
3.根据权利要求1所述的光纤连接器固定器,其中所述连接器固定器壳还包括臂,所述臂当所述光纤连接器被插入到所述连接器固定器壳的腔中时偏转向外。
4.根据权利要求3所述的光纤连接器固定器,其中所述臂限定包括倾斜部分的钩,所述倾斜部分当所述光纤连接器被插入到腔时与所述光纤连接器接合。
