Abstract

Each phase winding A, B, C includes a coil that extends through a respective pair of mutually adjacent stator slots (2206) and surrounds a respective portion of the stator between the slots (2206). In addition, mutually adjacent coils in each pair of phase windings A, B, C extend through opposite portions of one and each of the slots (2206), such that these coils extend side by side in the slot, being either separated by a space which it may be pumped through cooling fluid to cool the coils, or is separated by a thermally conductive projection (3110) with which the coils are in thermal contact and extending at least a distance across the slot. Such a winding arrangement is advantageous to ensure that the motor has a long service life.
