Abstract

The mechanism for machining the surface of a hemispherical or part-hemispherical cavity (2) comprises a cutting tool (4) which is positioned by means of a spherical element (3) which fits in the cavity. The element (3) may be provided with one or more swarf-collecting grooves (8). A stop may be provided to adjust the tool to a constant operating depth. The assembly may be provided with a guide rod which is movable in a cut-out pattern of a plate comprising with the desired machining pattern in the cavity. The cutting tool may be rotated by an air turbine (6). The workpiece (1) may be in plastic with a cavity whose radius of curvature is equal to or less than 25 mm.
