  That ending was really rushed. Felt like they ran out of money there.

  Otherwise, this ain’t too bad. Basically Tarot except with more interesting characters and gorier. Speaking of which, the gore itself is pretty gnarly at times and all done practically, which is a welcome plus.

  This will be an interesting one to write about.

  Those expecting a more “traditional” horror anthology, beware. This is much more arthouse than Grindhouse, so those hoping for sleaze and splatter may walk away disappointed. Me? I…actually didn’t mind it, though I can understand why some might hate it.

  Pretty dumb but entertaining late 80's slasher that makes up for what it (mostly) lacks in successful humor with some effective direction and cinematography (I was left wishing the director had done more after this) and performances that are shockingly not bad. As for the kills? They aren't as great as you'd hope from a movie with a guy that has a huge meat cleaver, but it's still gory enough.

  Also, love the scene where Lester drives the cop car around. Never before has an actor playing a slasher villain had such an infectious sense of joy doing something so goofy.

  Some Texas Chainsaw Massacre references, and then…a nod to Eaten Alive? You are speaking my language.

  A24 horror, but not as usual. Sure, there’s a slow burn and artful cinematography, but here Ti West (making a welcome return to horror movies) just wants you to enjoy yourself. No tortured “it’s about trauma” or metaphors-just gory death scenes, unapologetic sex and nudity and welcome humor to go with the atmosphere.
