From Ottoman Turkish قلپاق (Turkish kalpak),[1][2] from Proto-Turkic[3] or from Middle Persian kwlʾp̄k' (kulāfak, little cap; calyx), diminutive of kwlʾp̄ (kulāf, cap, bonnet),[4][5] (Persian کلاهک (kolâhak), diminutive of کلاه (kolâh, hat)), or from Common Turkic *kalpak.[6] Doublet of kolpik.
