- Compare Proto-Tai *klwɯəᴬ (“salt”), whence Thai เกลือ (glʉʉa), Zhuang gyu (Schuessler, 2007). Possibly connected to 鹵 (OC *raːʔ, “salty”). Possible allofams or variants are 斥 (OC *ŋ̊ʰjaːɡ, “saline”) and 潟 (OC *sjaːɡ, “saline land”).
