[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Middle Chinese 邪馬台 (MC *yae maeX doj), which appeared in Chinese records, particularly the 三国志 (Sangokushi, “Records of the Three Kingdoms”), wherein 邪馬臺 (possibly pronounced *ja-maB-də̂ in Eastern Han Chinese[1]) transliterated Old Japanese 大和 (Yamato2), from Proto-Japonic *yamatə.
Usually pronounced with a plosive, as Yabatai. (Can this(+) etymology be sourced?)
Proper noun
[edit]邪馬台 or 邪馬台 • (Yamatai or Yabatai)
- (historical) Short for 邪馬台国 (Yamatai-koku): Yamatai
