Die Wirtschaftsbereiche werden in die drei Sektoren Land- und Forstwirtschaft, warenproduzierendes Gewerbe und den sehr vielschichtig strukturierten Dienstleistungssektor untergliedert. Zum Dienstleistungssektor zählen so unterschiedliche Branchen wie Handel, Verkehr, priv. Dienstleistungen (z.B. Banken, Versicherungen), Wissenschaft, Beherbergungsgewerbe, Gesundheitswesen und öffentliche Verwaltung.
