Shogakukan mini-volume | Episode 7 in Vol. 2 |
Series | Pokémon Adventures |
(Japanese: 激戦!完璧のヌシ!! Fierce Fight! The Stony Cliff Leader!!) is the seventh chapter of the Scarlet & Violet arc of the Pokémon Adventures manga.
It is subtitled (Japanese: VSガケガニ VS Gakegani).
Plot
After Violet, Arven, and Clavell exit the Segin Squad's Base, Cassiopeia—through Rotojī—commends them for their work. They attempt to compensate Violet, but he only wishes to be given information on how to defeat the Titan Pokémon. Surprised, Cassiopeia tells him they will get back in contact when they find out, and they release their control of Rotojī. Arven is impressed with Violet for his request, but the feeling is cut short when Rotojī explains that Violet's family is so wealthy that no prize would ever be worth much to him.
Clavell prepares to return to the academy, but Violet stops him and tries to convince him to come along on their treasure hunt, as he has become one of his "best friends." Giving Clavell the chance to leave, Arven distracts Violet by offering to make him a sandwich with a recipe and ingredients he received from Giacomo. As Clavell leaves on his Cyclizar, he wonders if the members of Team Star are truly the delinquents they were thought to be.
The next morning, as Arven and Violet sleep in a tent, Arven wakes up to a scream outside. As he exits the tent in a hurry, he is stunned to see Miraidon jumping onto Penny and licking her face. Arven pulls Miraidon away from her, and when Penny asks him about the Pokémon, he admits to not knowing much about it. Awakened by the noise, Violet groggily steps out of the tent. To the others' surprise, Violet instantly recognizes Penny. He begins to ask if Team Star gave her any more trouble, leading Penny to mention that he and Scarlet likely did a good job of making sure they will stay away from her. Believing Penny is referring to Arven by the wrong name, Violet is confused, causing her to grow nervous.
When Violet asks what Penny is doing in the area, she explains she is working for Cassiopeia—recruited by them for her proficiency in technology. Saying that she is in charge of delivering supplies, Penny reveals she has the information Violet requested. Penny informs the two of the Stony Cliff Titan, located in South Province (Area Three). Delighted, Arven prepares to make a sandwich for her as thanks. She is confused, prompting Violet to explain that even though Arven's cooking lacks the finest ingredients, it is still exemplary. Arven does not know how to react to this, but goes to cook for them regardless.
In Cortondo, Scarlet eats every dish in Katy's dessert buffet, making the latter realize she will have to close her shop the next day due to a lack of stock. Scarlet prepares to leave in order to continue her quest for the treasures of ruin, but Katy stops her to hand over some prize money for defeating her in battle. This surprises Scarlet, as it is revealed she has never fought a Trainer before. Shocked and fascinated by this information, Nemona suggests Scarlet battle her, but the latter instead asks for the location of the other watchtowers in the area. Nemona informs her that watchtowers tend to be close to towns, prompting Katy to point out that she saw one near Artazon, where Gym Leader Brassius resides. Excited at the prospect of forming a rivalry with Scarlet, Nemona stays by her side as she begins her trip to her next destination.
In the Staff Room at Uva Academy, Clavell attempts to uncover information about Team Star from before his employment. As two staff members beside him reveal, every employee at the school was hired after Clavell's appointment as Director, meaning they have no answer as to why Team Star was formed in the first place. When Clavell considers asking the students, one of the staff members recalls a first-year who had taken a leave of absence and returned over a year and a half later. Looking for the student through the system, Clavell comes across Penny's file.
The following day, at South Province (Area Three), Violet and Arven try to gather information on the Stony Cliff Titan by asking a man they happen to stumble across. He claims he noticed a Champion-ranking girl pass through the area that morning. Threatened by the idea of Nemona scaring off the Titan before they can obtain the Herba Mystica, Arven gets Violet to hurry on so they can find it.
As the two ride through the area on Miraidon, Violet notices a spot on a cliff that appears to be moving on its own. Miraidon sees it too, throwing its riders off of its back in order to pounce on it. The outer rock shatters, revealing the Titan Pokémon beneath it. Rotojī identifies the Pokémon as a Klawf, and Violet and Arven take out Paldean Wooper and Shellder, respectively, to battle it. Both Pokémon launch attacks at it, but Klawf climbs up and over the cliff to escape. Rotojī flies over to survey its path from above, guiding Violet and Arven toward it. Right as they catch up with Klawf, it jumps onto another cliff. Violet and Arven continue chasing after it, but whenever they get close, Klawf escapes them. Realizing they will never catch up with the Titan Pokémon, Violet decides their next course of action is to search from higher ground. He spots a nearby watchtower and directs Arven to make his way there.
When Arven climbs to the top of the watchtower, he is stunned to find Nemona lying unconscious. He moves toward her, but suddenly, a Quaxly charges toward him from behind, ready to attack.
