Lisa Bloch Rodwin (Democratic Party) was a judge of the Erie County Family Court in New York. She assumed office in 2008. She left office in 2020.

Rodwin (Democratic Party) ran for re-election for judge of the Erie County Family Court in New York. She won in the general election on November 6, 2018.

Bloch Rodwin cross-filed to also run with the Republican Party, the Conservative Party, the Green Party, the Independence Party, the Reform Party, and the Working Families Party in 2018.

Bloch Rodwin was appointed to this position in May 2008. The following year, she was elected to a full term.[1][2]

Biography

Education

Rodwin received her B.A. degree from Douglass College, Rutgers University in 1979. She went on to earn her J.D. degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Law.[1]

Career

Rodwin began her career in 1982 as a law clerk in the New York Attorney General's office. She left that position in 1983. She became a prosecutor in 1985 and worked in that capacity until her judicial appointment in 2008. She joined the Erie County District Attorney's Office as an Assistant D.A. in 1989, serving on the Buffalo City Court Bureau, Grand Jury Bureau and Appeals Bureau. She worked as Assistant Bureau Chief of the Buffalo City Court Bureau from 1993 to 1994 and then as Bureau Chief of the Domestic Violence Bureau rom 1995 to 2008. In addition, she worked as the Program Director of the Canada-US Business Association from 1989 to 1991. She was appointed to the Family Court bench in 2008.[1][2]

Selection method

Judges of the New York Family Courts all serve 10-year terms but their method of selection varies based on location. Outside of New York City, they are selected through partisan contested elections. In New York City, they are appointed by the mayor. To serve on this court, a judge must be a state and county resident, at least 18 years old and practice in the state for 10 years. This court has a mandatory retirement age of 70 years old.[3]
