Charles Tait was a federal judge on the United States District Court for the District of Alabama. He was nominated by President James Monroe on May 10, 1820. He was confirmed by the Senate on May 13, 1820, and received commission that same day. He was reassigned on March 10, 1824.

Tait was reassigned to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Alabama and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama on March 10, 1824. He resigned on February 1, 1826. Tait was succeeded in this position by William Crawford. Tait died on October 7th, 1835.
