Umam me!
I’ve been craving intensely salty or umami snacks. Crispy Cheetos are my usual go-to, but I’m wondering if there’s anything a bit healthier? [more inside]
Interesting international snacks for Christmas gifts
Okay, here is an anodyne question that will take people's minds off the election - I had a flash of insight yesterday about Christmas gifts.... [more inside]
What to buy the office with excess supply money?
Our office is budgeted about $10,000 a year from big evil corporate to spend on "supplies". Things like batteries, keyboards, mice, chairs, etc. This year, so far, we have spent about $3,000. And you know the drill, what you don't use, you lose! Last year we bought a grill, a mini fridge, etc. People generally have comfortable standing desks and chairs already. What open-office-supplies would be nice to have that would fit this spending amount for a team of ~30 people?
What US treats do Canadians like?
I am sending a small care package from the US to a friend in Manitoba, and wanted to add on some treats that are hard to find up there if at all. [more inside]

Hors D'oeuvres - The New Hotness
What are your must try goodies from Iceland?
We're traveling to Iceland for a 4 day trip, will be based in Reykjavik and doing trips from there. We're sorted for food while there (although if you have a must try recommendation, I'd love to hear it). However, I'd like your suggestions for consumable gifts to bring back for family - what are your favorite, made in Iceland (or I guess not widely available in western Europe or north America) treats / snacks / cooking ingredients? Open to sweet, savory, just no fermented fish
What offbeat thing goes on your snackboard?
I'm bringing a grazing/snack board to Thanksgiving dinner at some family friends' place. I'm planning to do some combo of the following: two kinds of cheeses, two kinds of crackers, some fruits, some raw veggies, some nuts, some olives and/or pickles, maybe something a little sweet. [more inside]

Hearty snack for 14 kids under 12
I will be hosting 14 kids under 12 years old for pumpkin carving next week. There will be about 6 adults as well. What can you recommend for an outdoor snack to serve? This will be a late afternoon gathering and I don't want them all getting hangry. [more inside]
Stuff to do in Hackney/Dalston, London UK—first in a series: FOOD?
Hello there! I am going to be visiting London for a week at the end of October, and staying in Hackney Central, while walking to Dalston daily. I'll be posting more questions over the next couple of weeks about other stuff to do while I'm there—but with this question, I would like to focus on recommendations for local eateries and food shopping. See inside for special snowflake stuff. Thanks! [more inside]
Halloween at the Good House year 2
I'm back, baby. Once again seeking group feedback from MeFites who can ask their real, human children: what atypical things would you like to trick or treat this year? [more inside]
vegan/veg snacks that satisfy the same cravings as hard sausage
What are some vegan or vegetarian foods that satisfy similar cravings to hard sausages and summer sausages? (For purposes of this question, I'm not referring to breakfast sausages or the hotdog / kielbasa expanded universe.) They don't have to claim to be sausages themselves as long as they satisfy most of these criteria: savory, chewy, lots of fat and protein, salt and umami, and lactic acid tang (or equivalent). Commercial products widely available in the US, or recipes. [more inside]
recipes or products featuring (not just including) flax seeds
I really like the taste of the whole flax seeds baked into certain tortilla chips and trader joes whole wheat pita chips. I'd love recommendations for other products that put the flax seeds front and center, or recipes for making my own.

Quick easy vegan snacks (when cooking isn't really an option)
I'm staying in a rental house, and having a new friend over to watch a movie one evening. Awesome! They are vegan, and I haven't entertained since pre-pandemic and am totally stuck as to what snacks/drinks to serve. [more inside]
Give me your snack ideas!
I need snack ideas as I'm bored with my current options and find myself buying chips and cookies and stuff more than I want. I'd like low-sodium/low-lactose (so yogurt probably out) and vegetarian options that are relatively healthy and aren't super carb heavy. Right now I rotate unsalted cashews, fruit, homemade popcorn, and string cheese but I'm tapped out on other idea. Savory better than sweet. Thanks!

Canned fish without the smell
I love eating canned sardines and herring as snacks, they are delicious and filling. But I can only eat them when everyone else is out of the house because my whole family thinks the smell is absolutely awful. Is there anything else that is as tasty, full of protein, and as easy, but less smelly? Restrictions: no cooking and shelf-stable. [more inside]
Suggestions for easy, healthy, kid-friendly school snacks?
Even places like Trader Joe's and Costco, it seems like all the "snacks" are terrible for you. I want my kids to eat healthy snacks at school but I want them to like them and for them to not take forever to make.
No nuts allowed at their school.
Any suggestions? Can be easy to make or store bought
When will x shortage be over? Especially Carr's Ginger Lemon Cremes?
Is there a good resource anywhere that will tell me when a product shortage is likely to be over, and ideally why the heck there's a shortage in the first place? I'm especially hankering after Carr's Ginger Lemon Cremes cookies, but curious about several items. [more inside]
Is there a snack box subscription like Graze still available in the US?
I used to have a Graze snack box subscription. I really liked that it rotated through a variety of savory or lightly sweet snacks in individually-packaged portions. Graze is no longer available in the US--is there anything similar? Most everything I've found is candy-heavy, focused on international treats, or unappealing-to-me "healthy" snacks--I don't want any of that. I do know about searching CrateJoy, I'm looking for specific subscription box recommendations here.
Children, what do they like? Halloween Edition
I'm going to try to do Halloween right this year. I know trick or treat has been pretty screwed up by covid, and I'm bringing it back. People who actually have kids or hang out regularly with kids: What's hot right now for toys and treats? [more inside]
Suggestions for pickled and/or fermented snacks
I am a compulsive snacker and my snack of choice is anything pickled or lacto-fermented. What are some foods I can order online (NE US) or ferment at home that would scratch the itch? The ideal is something that I can get and consume in bulk quantities (e.g. olives). [more inside]
Help me make sea asparagus chips!
I got some sea asparagus in my produce box. I just popped a piece into my mouth as I was making a salad. So salty! Relatively firm. It was immediately obvious that these should be dehydrated and turned into the Hickory Sticks of the sea. And yet google doesn't seem to know about this. What spices should I put on my sea asparagus to make an awesomely healthy yet delicious chip-adjacent snack food? [more inside]
CW: Disordered eating & raising children

Help me break the vicious cycle of book hoarding
I think I have a hoarding problem. About five years ago I realized I could go to the local library surplus sale and pick up books for my own "use" and take the ones I didn't necessarily want over to the local independent bookstore for credit. I would then scour the shelves at the bookstore for something interesting. I now have tons of unread books and have run out of room. Getting rid of them feels bad, but I know I need to. How can I get rid of them? Former book hoarders, how did you break the cycle? [more inside]
Desk Snacks -- Pandemic Edition
When you only go to your office intermittently, what are your favorite snacks to keep at your desk? For my requirements, they must be able to be stored at room temperature, inside a desk drawer. Individually packaged and relatively healthy are nice-to-haves. [more inside]
How do I get the salt and seasoning to stick to the popcorn?
We recently got an air popper and have been really enjoying it, but I don't understand how to get the seasoning to stick. I've been drizzling oil over the popcorn (and would prefer not to have to use a huge amount of it) but it still seems like half the salt goes to the bottom of the bowl. Ideas?
Please recommend tasty flavored non-potato chips
Due to a late-developed food intolerance, I can't eat potatoes or any potato derivatives*. Walking past the range of different chip flavors in the store makes me melancholy (and hungry). Is there a flavored, non-potato chip you like? [more inside]
Shelf-stable snacks with the most meat and fat?
Sending a care package to a war zone: what non-sugary snacks are best for providing high calories? Snacks that could be shared with multiple people would be ideal. Bonus points if it is low-weight so that some of them could be carried as well.
Seeking strongly-flavored prepared snacks and sweets
I'm looking for your favorite snacks and sweets with strong flavors. Things that almost hurt your tongue if you eat too much, like salt & vinegar chips, or open your sinuses like horseradish. Spicy is fine but I'm not really into the flavor of Tabasco hot sauce or buffalo wing sauce. Ready-made food as opposed to recipes, and snacks or sweets as opposed to full meals. Available online or in Northeast PA and NYC stores. [more inside]
Taste tester - snack edition?
I got myself a marshmallow advent calendar this year. Each marshmallow has a clue and then underneath it tells you the flavor. Turned out to be a fun little game with my non marshmallow loving husband. Smell it, take a bite, guess the flavor.
Are there any other kits or gifts available year round so I can keep this going?
Recipes for homemade snacks that ship well?

Interesting/"artisanal" versions of classic snacks to buy online?
I'm trying to think of a fun gift for a snack-lover with a more traditional/classic palate, so I'm looking for something that's an interesting, or "artisanal," or fancier version of "normal" savory snacks (like popcorn, chips, Chex mixes, pretzels). Maybe something slightly less well-known than the UK flavors of crisps? Not too spicy or weird, though. I've seen those international snack subscriptions, and that's NOT what I'm looking for. Also, needs to be something I can purchase online (or at least have shipped to a mainland U.S. address).
Is it normal to need more than 3 meals a day?
I'm just annoyed that I can't seem to get by with 3 meals a day and I need to "waste" time by organising healthy snacks for work and then figuring out when my energy is flagging because I need a snack (rather than the million potential other reasons I'm not being productive). I just want to know if this is normal or if I'm doing something wrong? [more inside]

The spice must flow...for movie night
Friends and I are watching Dune (1984) before Dune (2021) comes out. I have never seen the movie, only read the book, and without a reread I'm drawing a blank on themed snacks for movie night. Any suggestions of food and/or drink for reasonably adventurous adults with no food allergies?

Got any hot drinks you enjoy with salty snacks?
Winter has arrived, and I'm in search of hot drinks to enjoy with things like Cheez-Its, or say... sour cream and onion potato chips. Normally I'd pair with water or a beer. (I guess I could have hot water? Hot beer or anything carbonated is going to decarbonate fast.) Hot apple cider is much too sweet to be anything but a dessert to my tastebuds, and right now I'm drinking it watered down at 25% concentration with these Cheez-Its and it's not really doing it for me. Gimme your weird hot drink for savory pairings!
Poll worker food
I will be working at the polls on election day from 5am to at least 9pm and am trying to figure out what food to take with me. We theoretically have two one hour meal breaks, which may or may not actually happen in full. There will not be refrigeration or reheating possibilities, but I do have an insulated lunchbox kicking around somewhere. I am a vegetarian who gets seriously hangry and can be revived by protein in particular. What should I buy? [more inside]
Packaged Breakfast/Lunch/Snack Food for Kids
We don't eat a lot of packaged/prepared foods but I'm about to have to juggle ALL the things and it's time for my 9 year old to start making her own meals sometimes. We have a few things she can make and she's used the microwave a bit and the toaster oven but I'd love to know what you keep on hand to get the kids to "help themselves." We are going to have a small pod of kids here somewhat regularly and I want to be able to let them do it themselves as much as possible. [more inside]
Beyond potato chips and hummus
I’ve recently made a couple of friends who are vegan (I am not). Due to COVID we’ve mainly been hanging out in parks. Potato chips and hummus are great but I can’t bring those every time, so I’d like to expand my repertoire of easy vegan snacks to bring to our hangouts. What are your favorites? [more inside]

Mystery Snack
Way back in the 70's my grandmother (in Louisville, KY) used to have these chips/snacks that I can only partially remember (I was like 8 or 9) as coming in either a bag or a box that had a cartoon on the back which illustrated the manufacture of said snack.
I can't remember much, but the illustration showed (I think) potatoes being sliced then they were being expressed as flakes onto a conveyor belt. [more inside]
