I gave up TV. Now help me buy a TV. (...Or a humongous monitor for my computer/dvd player.)

A couple months ago, I sold my old Sony Trinitron and gave up TV. It's been fantastic and I haven't really looked back. But I *have* been missing watching movies on a screen bigger than my 15” laptop. I've also always wanted a bigger monitor for my laptop, so I can juggle more projects at once. So I'm starting to look around for a large LCD monitor or sizable HDTV to serve these needs. I've had a couple co-workers at previous jobs tell me they use an LCD TV as a monitor and they swear by it for cost savings and multi-functionality. [more inside]

Will I get a crick in my neck from watching a TV over the fireplace?

My wife wants to get a plasma/LCD TV and mount it over the fireplace. That just seems way too high to watch comfortably, though. Does anyone have any experience with a TV mounted that high? Will the kids be able to watch it if they're sitting on the floor? Does angling it help?

I want a 40 + inch HDTV that wont break the bank!

LCD - PLASMA TV FILTER: I am in the market for a Flat Screen HDTV. I would LIKE to stay at 1000 bucks or below (I could probably move up to 1300 if the extra cash brought in a big leap in quality). New PC games run slowly on large LCD monitors?

I just bought a pretty high-end Dell PC with a large LCD monitor. It's got dual Core2 CPUs @ 2.66GHz, 4 GB of RAM, and a decent graphics card. The monitor is a widescreen 27" Dell Ultrasharp. So far, I like the PC. But I was disappointed to find that the first PC game I tried (BioShock) runs TERRIBLY. The game does run pretty well on my slightly older PC, which only has a 19" monitor. So, I think the large, widescreen monitor is the problem. Is that correct? Are there tricks to running the latest games on a large LCD monitor? Many thanks in advance for any advice and insight.

If you're dumb and you know it, clap your hands.

I'm sure this has been covered before but I'm in a small panic, so forgive the indulgence. I just spilled a small (maybe 1/4 oz.) of beer on my MacBookPro. I caught it very quickly and sopped up the liquid with an absorbent towel. However, a small discolored spot has developed in the LCD and I'm wondering what the best way to abate the liquid might be. Help me maxamise my picture quality on a Sony Bravia LCD TV.

I've just bought a Sony Bravia 40" LCD TV. I'm interested in what others here think are the optimal settings for viewing HDTV? And, while we're at it, for watching DVDs, as I'm sure that HDTV would benefit from different settings than DVDs would. I think I have the settings pretty much as good as I can get them, and I recognise that different settings suit different people, but I would be interested in what other Bravia owners think are the best settings for optimising their picture quality.
