MacGyver would use this bag

Looking for a messenger/briefcase type bag, that is taller than it is wide. Saw this Saddleback bag, but specifically I'm looking for something with separate compartments. Something like one big compartment and one small compartment. As in, there would be a compartment that would fit a laptop, and another compartment for miscellany. Here's the kicker: I would like the compartments to be able to be opened individually. E.g. I could open up and remove the laptop, without opening up the other compartment. [more inside]

I'm in need of a new carry-on bag, and don't like rollers (too big/bulky).

I'm in need of a new carry-on bag, and don't like rollers (too big/bulky). I'm in love with this Rapha bag, but not so in love with the price tag. Google has come up rather dry. Does anyone know manufacturers/sellers of similarly retro-themed bags?

Travel-related errand running in London.

LondonShoppingFilter: I need to pick up a few travel-related bits and bobs during a one-day stopover in London on Saturday, the 20th of August, and I'd love to have it all done within, say, two or three hours. I'd love recommendations for shops which are relatively close together and well-stocked to save time. [more inside]

Hermes vs. less pricey luxury brands for leather

Is there any real way a Hermes leather bag is ‘better’ than your average Gucci/LV/Cartier/etc. bag? I mean once you’re in “Handmade in Europe by a company that’s been around since before 1930″ territory it’s all the same right? Trying to figure out whether to save up (a while!) for the big H or forget it and go for the others. [more inside]

messenger bag organizer

Hi, I have a Manhattan Portage messenger bag. I've had it since 1996 and it's still in great shape. It's a fairly simple design with one small pocket on the inside. I'm looking for some sort of organizer. Something that can handle all the various wires, earbuds, papers and just general detritus that accumulates. I currently don't carry a laptop but I'm open to any form of organizer. Any suggestions? Thanks
