Best duffle with backpack straps for a smallish person?

To reduce back pain I'd like to switch from a shoulder strap duffle bag to one with backpack straps. I'm suddenly overwhelmed by all the different options. What duffles with backpack straps do shorter-statured MeFites like? And if I travel with a 50L shoulder strap duffle now, should I expect that a 50L backpack duffle will also do the job or look into a different size? [more inside]

Awesomely detailed backpacks, bags and luggage

I am looking for the Swiss army knife of bags. Things I like or need: a laptop sleeve, lots of places to attach carabiners, organizational pockets with places for all kinds of little things, pencil and pen sleeves and space for other small things like that, wet/dry compartment for wetsuits or whatever, skateboard bungee cables, water bottle holder, and lots of pockets.

What's the cheapest way to ship an empty suitcase from Sweden?

I bought a brand new suitcase for 600 bucks. Aluminum. Because I had important stuff in it that I didn't want crushed. On the inaugural flight to Sweden the airline lost it for a week. Good news? My stuff is fine. Bad? They crunched the wheel and handle. So I need to send it back from Sweden to Davis CA for repair. (nope, nowhere closer) So if I don't care how long it takes, what's the cheapest way to do it?

What's the biggest & best checked luggage I can take around the world?

So I'm heading around the world for three months. I bought a luggage set and it fell apart, luckily, before I got going. So now I'm looking whatever the biggest checked bag is that I can take with me. Ideally it's strong, light, rolls well and isn't black (ideally red or brown). So I can find it on the luggage carousel. What's the right Joe Vs. The Volcano luggage for me?

In search of organizational peace while living on the road

In a few weeks I leave to spend 3 months touring and living in a van to do outreach for an animal rights organization, and I'm trying to devise a good system for my stuff on the road. In particular, I'm in search of a good, roughly duffel-sized vegan bag that I can use for this tour and beyond, plus a good way to keep my toiletries together. More general tips for staying organized while living on the road are welcome. [more inside]

That kind of thing IS my bag, baby

We need new overnight bags, suitable for weekend car trips or a night at Grandma/Grandpa's. I don't think I've ever owned one of these that wasn't a hand-me-down from the back of someone's dad's closet. Can you help me find some good Christmas-able options for 1) my husband and 2) my currently-tiny daughter? [more inside]

Bag!... Lady? : ISO Bombproof-But-Pretty Messenger Bag

I need a messenger bag that's, 1. Capable of withstanding a nuclear blast, aaaaand, 2. Somewhat feminine (in a "spunky pigtailed tomboy" way, not an "appletinis and selfies with the besties" way). Looking for smallish canvas and leather tote/briefcase

I'm looking for an everyday, tote/briefcase-type bag; smallish, around 12x9" and maybe 5 or 6" wide, made of canvas and leather, hoping to keep the price below $125. Any suggestions? I saw something on the train today that looked perfect, but I can't find it online. The brand was "Yosemite", which is tough to google. The logo on the label was a stylized sun with a face. Can anyone help me find that company or a different bag that fits the bill? [more inside]

I'm looking for a carry-on bag that meets the following criteria: convertible, small enough to carry on a plane legally (US), all black, compression straps of some sort, and no wheels. Lower or reasonably priced options are preferred (~$80 or less is ideal). I'm considering the Rick Steves convertible carry-on, but am open to other options. [more inside]

Suggestions for a decent day travel pack?

Can anyone suggest a decent smallish day bag to lug around while visiting a big city? We'll base ourselves at the hotel and would just need one to lug around for the day--something big enough for a couple guide books, maybe a light jacket, etc. Something that is relatively inexpensive, comfortable, and okay for both a man and woman to carry around would be ideal.
