Police have begun a preliminary investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a 6-year-old boy in the town of Mäntsälä in October this year.
The child was playing with his 5-year-old friend in the backyard of the younger child's home, when they both fell off a construction rack and cement boards landed on top of them.
The 6-year-old was initially resuscitated at the scene, but he later died from his injuries. The 5-year-old sustained serious injuries and was rushed to hospital.
In a statement released on Tuesday, police said that the investigation will seek to determine the sequence of events that led to the tragedy, as well as the responsibility of both sets of parents in relation to the incident.
The case is therefore being investigated under the suspected offences of abandonment, negligent homicide, negligence causing injury, and recklessness or carelessness causing injury to another person.
Police added that the suspected offences may change as the investigation progresses.
